Page made with pictures of our grandson visiting Callantsoog. Big machines at work. A ship is getting sand of the bottom of the sea and a pipeline is transporting it to the beach. This is why...
The dunes and beaches are our main protection against the sea. Because of wind, sea and flow, sand disappears from the coast. Beaches become smaller by rising sea levels. By applying new sand, the coastline will remain intact in a natural way. 12 million square meters additional sand strenthens the coastline annuallly. http://www.rws.nl/water/waterbeheer/bescherming-tegen-het-water/maatregelen-om-overstromingen-te-voorkomen/kustonderhoud (in Dutch)
