2016 Summer Road Trip: Part 1

Jordan and I are just back from a decently epic road trip around the US. The trip came upon us as a kind of surprise, we had been planning to drive to Tennessee for the graduation of Jordan's brother, but time got away from us and suddenly we had to leave if we wanted to get in there in time. So we left, and over a month later we're home again! We tried to take things slowly, so we'd have time to stop and see things, but it turns out it's a challenge to do a leisurely road trip, so much to see and do! My main goal for the trip was to see the Grand Canyon, but we saw so much more.

Here's an overview of the trip:

▲ Our first stop, a rest stop in Oregon.

▲ We eat a lot of Subway sandwiches when on the road.

▲ Bye Oregon! See you later!

▲ We spent our first night in Sacramento and visited the Old Town.

▲ The Old Town is a few blocks right on the riverfront; fun, old buildings from when Sacramento was a Wild West town.

▲ It was a great place to start our trip. While geographically we were heading east, in mood the area we were headed for had that American West feel. Sacramento got us off on the right foot.

▲ The next day we headed over the Sierra Nevada mountains.

▲ Up in the mountains is beautiful Lake Tahoe.

▲ A little scrapbooking as we go.

▲ At one point, the road feels like it is completely suspended above the lake.

▲ And down the mountains to the other side.

▲ A beautiful stop in the California wilderness at Mono Lake Tufa.

▲ Our final stop for the day was at Benton, California.

▲ Almost a ghost town, except for...

▲ A cute little B&B we stayed at with lovely hot springs. A perfect way to relax after a busy day.

Your 'Summer Road Trip: Part 1" certainly makes me look forward to the subsequent parts. I hope you post them, just like you did this one. You include such whimsy when you post. Always a delight to read. I'll need to look up Benton, CA. I'm from Central CA. Maybe it's close enough for a day trip.

This is one of my DREAM vacations! My son and I have summers off, but DH doesn't. We may just need to do it without him. Second on the list is a Mississippi riverboat cruise from Iowa to NOLA. Love the pics!
