Summer Travels: The Lake District
About a million years ago, at the beginning of June, Jordan and I took a trip to the Lake District in England. We were flying through England anyway on our way back to the States, and it was a good chance to stop and see Jordan's sister who was working at a retreat center there. It was a really wonderful place to stop and relax before embarking on our relocation project.
I figure the photos must look pretty nice to you, but imagine landing here after 2 years in the desert with no trees and no grass. It seemed rather excessive and was quite disorientating. It was a blessing to have an entire week to readjust to the green overload before we had to deal with anything else; to just be able to walk around and soak it all up.
When we first arrived I kept breaking out into a sweat, and I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me since it was really quite cooler than what I was used to. Then it occurred to me that it was just really humid. There was so much water everywhere, I guess my body decided it didn't need to horde it anymore...
We took lots of fantastic walks, ate lots of delicious treats, and had a great time readjusting to life with green.

About Me
Hi There! I’m Marisa Lerin and you’ll see me around at DigitalScrapbook.com a lot. I started this site in 2010 soon after I discovered a new love in digital scrapbooking. DigitalScrapbook.com has gone through some significant changes since that time and it’s grown into this lovely community site you are seeing now. I am daily surprised by the turn of life’s events that has led me down this path. If you're new to the site, welcome! Here are a few tidbits about me that I hope will help you get to know me better!
I’m originally from Minnesota, USA, but spent a good chunk of my childhood living abroad (in Bolivia and Hong Kong). I returned to Minnesota to attend university, got married and then moved overseas again (Korea, then Jordan and 1 year of traveling). My designs are heavily influenced by these many nomadic years. I am currently back in the USA, now living in the great state of Oregon!
I have no official training for what I’m doing, since I decided very wisely (haha) to study physics in university. I am always learning new things about digital scrapbooking, and this community has been immensely helpful for that!
If I manage to stop digital scrapbooking you will probably find me watching TV, reading or baking. I also enjoy writing for the blog here at DigitalScrapbook.com where I talk about whatever happens to be catching my fancy at the moment.

This retreat looks so beautiful! I know what you mean about green overload. I grew up in New Jersey, then lived in the Poconos for a couple of years, moved to Los Angeles for only 4 months, but when I got back to the Poconos I felt like the green and the trees were glowing! I will never forget that feeling.
Beautiful photo's!! We love to go to the UK and if you ever get the chance to see Scotland I say do it!
Wow the color (as always) is just breathtaking! I can imagine what a shock coming out of the desert must have been like! I am so behind on your travels since you left but am excited to catch back up!

I know what you mean by overload, when we returned to the UK from Saudi Arabia, I actually knelt down to smell the grass again.
We are so lucky to have this beautiful green land, even though too much rain sometimes LOL.

These photos are lovely! MY favorite is of the sheep out to pasture, with the sun over the hill tops. :)

Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful country. I would like to visit some day.
Beautiful photos! I chuckle at your reaction to all the green and the humidity. I can't imagine the shock to your system to encounter the change in scenery after living in such different environs for so many years. But it gives you a taste of what you may encounter in the beautiful NorthWest!
These photos are mesmerizing! The Lake District is now officially on my list of "must see places"! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
