About Me
I'm a 40-something woman with way too much time on my hands! I'm an avid camper, kayaker, animal lover, amputee, and very proud Aunt to 2 newly adopted, amazing kids (which is good, as they make up most of my scrapbooking!). I live with my 2 dogs Cody & Kaylynn, cat Akasha, conure Sprite (the fairy, not the soft drink...) and fish who are, sadly, unnamed.
Description
This is a picture of my Gramma and her sister (my great-aunt) Jane. They started camping at Otsego Lake State Park, MI in 1947, and since then the McDonalds have camped there *every* year. Next to her family, camping was what my Gramma loved the most, and campfires were her favorite part. In 2001 she was diagnosed with ALS - a few months later she was still able to go camping with us, and as a special treat her sister, who hadn't been camping since her kids grew up, joined us. We had the best time, and I've never seen my aunt laugh so hard in my life! The cups these two giddy kids are holding contain wine (Gramma always liked to have a special wine glass while camping). The best part of these cups, according to Gramma, was that she didn't even have to hold it, as she is demonstrating in this picture.
Of all the pictures I've taken camping, this low res, lost-then-found scan-of-a-copy-of-a-scan one is my favorite.
My Gramma died a few months later, and on her last day she talked about that last, most wonderful camping trip. And made us promise to make her ashes part of our next campfire.
The fire in this layout is a photo of a fire we had the next year, cut out and placed inside a clip-art fire ring.
