What is your favorite quote(s)? Serious or not.
A couple of my favorites are NOT serious.

1. "If you don't know what you're doing, do it quickly" - Jase Robertson Duck Dynasty

2. "Joe? Just call me Joe?" - Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail

The first one pops in my head almost daily! Gives me a good laugh! The second one comes to mind every time I hear the name Joe.

I have a Quotes board on Pinterest (or more accurately I co-opted my friends board) and I've pinned TONS of great quotes on there. I recently scrapped one of my favorites, "I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions" -Augusten Burroughs

my favorite quote is: "Everything happens for a reason" (i think it works for me somehow, there is always a reason why things happen) smiley
i've pinned lots of quotes and sayings here Pinterest: Quotes&Sayings
btw i love your #1 quote, it makes sence, lol smiley

"Life is what happens when you are making other plans."

That could be looked at as a negative or a positive.

My favorite is... "People are like stained glass windows, you can only see their beauty in the darkness if there is a light within." I make a stained glass paper window on a bookmark and put the verse on it.

My favorite quote is..."I have an autoharp and I'm not afraid to use it." Have no idea who said it. I did use the autoharp as a weapon against my two boys. When they wanted to do something and they were supposed to "clean their room" or some such awful thing and they didn't want to, I told them I would play my autoharp until they did it. Worked every time. They hated my autoharp. LOLOL Their buddies that came over liked it. Or, they were just too polite to say anything bad about my playing. smiley

"He who opens a school door, closes a prison." Victor Hugo. I use this as the signature on my emails at work.

There are so many quotes I like & most of them are related to my life, some of them are:

• "Everything Happens For A Reason"
• "Don't Forget To Smile"
• "Don't Let Your Past Steal Your Present"
• "It Is What It Is"

This is currently my favorite "quote"

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live" - Albus Dumbledore

Awesome quotes from everyone!! Some I've never heard before.
There is one (golden rule) I try to live by daily - 'One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself'. I tried to raise my kids to remember this when they would come home from school telling me how someone was treated. Always be kind to the least liked kid because that could have been them.
Have to remind my husband of this when he gets upset with people in general.

Here are a few of my favorites:
A woman who fears the Lord will not run away from God to satisfy her longings and relieve her anxieties. She will wait for the Lord. She will hope in God. She will stay close to the heart of God and trust in his promises. The prospect of departing into the way of sin will be too fearful to pursue; and the benefits of abiding in the shadow of the Almighty too glorious to forsake. -John Piper

Whenever you surrender the most precious areas of your life to God, it's like trading in a pile of worthless pebbles for a truckload of priceless jewels. -Leslie Ludy

My faith rests not in what I am, or shall be, or feel, or know, but in what Christ is, in what He has done, and in what He is now doing for me. -Charles Spurgeon

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of - throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.” -C. S. Lewis from Mere Christianity

Every moment a fresh one smiley

"If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die, I want to go where they went." - Will Rogers.

This quote describes me and my Husband completely, in our feelings about dogs. smiley

I also like the one; "God gives a bird it's food, but he does not put it in it's nest." - Unknown

"You give but little when you give of your possessions; it's when you give of yourself that you truly give." Kahil Gibran

Current favorites:

"We all make mistakes, and we all pay a price". ~ Hugh Laurie in House M.D.
“You can only be young once. But you can always be immature.” ~ Dave Barry
"Love is a friendship set to music" ~ Joseph Campbell

This quote was @ the end of JRR Tolkein's The Hobbit:

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

With Thanksgiving being around the corner, I thought this was fitting...

Most of the quotes I like are from scripture...

"We dare not trust our wit for making our house pleasant to our friend, so we buy ice cream." Ralph Waldo Emerson

I saw this on the wall of an ice cream shop, and it tickled my funny bone. It has become my fall-back for hospitality. Since we almost always have ice cream on hand, we can offer something special to our guests no matter how unprepared otherwise we might be. And with a house full of teenagers and friends coming and going, we go through a lot of ice cream!

Not sure if it's my favourite quote, but certainly the one I'm most proud of, as it's one I came up with. It's even listed at the quotegarden smiley
Recently I googled it and was amazed by how many times it was used ánd with my name added to it! *beaming*

Quote:
When snow falls, nature listens

This is from a poem by Spike Milligan

If I could speak words of water,
You would drown when I said
"I love you."

Definitely my kind of thread here. I absolutely love quotes. Here are a few of my favorites:

"God gave us our memories so we might have roses in December." J.M. Barrie. (Loved that one so much it is the basis for a novel I'm working on.)

"When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging." Will Rogers.

"You live and learn or you don't live long." Robert Heinlein.

"To be able to say how much you love is to love but little." Petrarch.

I have two current favourites - “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.” Roald Dahl
and the Augusten Burroughs quote that Tiffany posted above.

My favorite quote is from the movie "The Long Kiss Goodnight". Geena Davis' character says, "Look, I know you're afraid. That's the whole point. Can't you see that? Stop being a little baby and get up. Life is pain. Get used to it!"
It has always stuck with me... probably because I often give up at the first hint of pain or fear... but life just seems to be different degrees of pain, and the real challenge is finding joy in the midst of it. And fear... well, that's really just in your head, the threat of the unknown. And life is nothing but unknown. So, this quote gives me a reality check sometimes. It says to me, "Yes, you're in pain and scared, but that's life. Cancel the pity party. There's no going back, so get up and keep going forward!"

And, a saying of mine that makes people giggle is "Put on your big girl panties and drive the bus!" ...kinda along the same lines. smiley

-If you want to make your dreams come true, you have to wake up!
-Children are often spoiled because noone will spank grandma! (he,he,he)

What ever you do, be good at it!!

I don't know if mine would be classified as a quote - it's more of a definition but seeing as I've studied BCompt it's the quote that describes my life. Accountant: someone that solves a problem you didn't know you had in a way youdon't understand. And also one from Mark Twain: Dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening, love like you've never been hurt, live like it's heaven on earth.

My favourite is one of my own ..... "You are such a clown" .... I say that to myself when I do crazy or dumb things....it reminds me to take my mistakes and missteps with a sense of humour and reminding myself that I am only human, instead of getting down on myself.

One of my favorites since high school...

"The past is our definition. We may strive, with good reason, to escape it, or to escape the bad in it, but we will escape it only by adding something better to it."

-Wendell Berry

I like the old and simple "Know thyself"

I've been meaning to put something in here for a while, but keep forgetting... smiley Anyhow, here's a bunch:

God doesn't give us what we can handle, God helps us handle what we are given. smiley

I am not what has happened to me. I am what I choose to become. ~ Carl Jung

Falling in love is not a choice....but to stay in love is.

I've learned that it is not what I have in my life but who I have in my life that counts.

A relationship without trust is like a car without gas... You can stay in it all you want, but it won't go anywhere.

God doesn't give you the people you want, He gives you the people you need.....to help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you & to make you the person you were meant to be.

Though miles lie between us, we are never far apart....for friendship doesn't count miles, it's measured by the heart.

Family isn't always blood... It's the people in your life who who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile & who love you no matter what.

Enjoy the little things in life....because one day you will look back & realize they were the big things.

People don't always need advice. Sometimes all they really need is a hand to hold, an ear to listen, and a heart to understand them.

As we grow up, we realize it is less important to have lots of friends, and more important to have real ones.

Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget. ~ G. Randolf

The best things in life aren't things...

Good relationships don't just happen. They take time, patience, and two people who truly want to be together...

When you stop chasing the wrong things, you give the right things a chance to catch you.

When something bad happens you have 3 choices: you can let it define you, you can let it destroy you or you can let it strengthen you.

When you feel like you're drowning in life, don't worry - your Lifeguard walks on water. smiley
