GIMP: pat files

Anyone know how to use pat files from DigitalScrapbook.com in GIMP? I tried to copy it to my patters folder for Gimp, but they don't show up.
Thanks!

Following this thread for now, as I'm on my way out of town for a conference. Interested in learning this as well. Have you seen our other Gimp threads? We have one that has some links to outside tutorial sites. I'll have to look them up after this weekend though.

I have looked and I actually don't think it's possible with the newer versions of Photoshop. At least on here, we usually get the PNGs as well. So I figured out how to make those into patterns!

I am sorry I am no help with Gimp.

@Alison Bardill:

You have to open the pattern in GIMP and save as a GIMP pattern (.pat), put it in the GIMP pattern file and then it will show up and work properly. This works for PNGs too.

Thanks Sandra!
Just to clarify, do you mean open it in Gimp like a regular image? Instead of trying to import to the pattern directory directly?

Yes, exactly. Open as usual and then save as a GIMP pattern. This converts it to a file that the GIMP pattern directory recognises. You can choose to send it straight to the pattern directory in the same operation, or if you prefer you can save it to desktop or some other location and move it to the pattern directory manually when you want to use it.

Thanks so much!

Wow, Sandra! Simple solutions! Thanks for figuring this out for us, I've been so busy lately just haven't had time to get in GIMP!

Thanks for sharing Sandra!

Glad to see someone else using GIMP! I really like it so far but so few users it seems!

Thanks so much for the info!

I am also glad there are others using GIMP. I love it, but so few people seem to be using it for scrapbooking.

Hi, Gimpers! I am one of the user, too.

As an additional tip for usage of GIMP patterns, I'm afraid you might have/know already, Pattern Scale Script* is very useful for me.
If you are interested in, you can find it at the following address:

* Though this script was written for GIMP2.6, it also works on my GIMP v2.8.4.

Orsinian Tales - that is very helpful! Thus far, I have only scratched the surface of what GIMP can do, and I'm ready to dive in a little deeper. Time to teach this old dog a few new tricks!! Thanks!
