Silhouette Studio Designer Edition Questions

I've finally got my new Silhouette machine up and working, and I'm wondering about upgrading to the Designer edition of the software. Does anybody use it? I think what I'm most interested in is being able to work with more file types. My understanding is that it works with SVG files. Does this mean that if I bring an SVG file into a Silhouette document, it can trace it smoothly? Right now I've just been working from PNG files and the trace is very bumpy.

I am also debating on if I should upgrade to the Designer Edition.

Thanks Benita. That looks useful.

I'm a bit too used to working in Photoshop or Illustrator to want to do much actual designing in the Silhouette program. So I'm mostly concerned with how to best import files from those programs for the cleanest cut.

@Marisa This blog post from Kelleigh Ratzlaff looks like the answer to your question.

Thanks Rachel! I'll check that out!

@Marisa Did you purchase the Designer Edition?

The nice part of working with SVG is that Illustrator has so many tools that you can create with, than import to the cutters software as long as it accepts SVG.

@Beinta: Not yet! I've distracted myself with other things, I'll get back to this one day smiley

I have the Designer version. I love it. I can't even remember what I couldn't do with the original version. I don't use my Silhouette as often as I used to, but... Also, I have found that I can use the SVG files that I bought in the Sil store in my work in Photoshop/Elements, but I am sure you already knew that smiley
