Baby Books

I make a lot of baby books for other people. I would like to know if anyone would like to respond to any of these questions:
1. What "firsts" do you think should be included?
2. Are there any popular trends for babies (monsters, cupcakes? )
3. What are some alternate color schemes you think would be cool for a BOY or a GIRL?
Thanks!

Thanks for posting this! I've been thinking about making a baby kit, but since I have no baby, I'm not sure what to include!

I don't know about baby trends (mine is about to be nine - insert wailing/sobbing/gnashing of teeth) But! I love the red and aqua color theme that is so popular right now, perfect for boy OR girl, and I would do it with a retro vibe.

Firsts, depending on the time frame of course: first tooth, first step, first bath, first day home, first solid food (whudda mess!), first birthday cake ('nuther mess), first special toy.

Thanks for your imput Tina! I love aqua and anything!

great idés Tina smiley The first thing that i think about is kind of bright happy colors smiley And elements like: stuffed cute animals, bottle, abc blocks, stars, moon with nightcap, sayings like: new born baby, a little star is born, cute, sweet and so on smiley There is soooo much smiley I think in general, think cute smiley Everything about a baby is cute smiley

Don´t forget "My first Christmas", "My first Easter" and other holidays that are important in your country, and lots of strpes and polka dots smiley

I like lime green (reminds me of my first baby over 30 yrs ago) maybe teamed with a hot vibrant pink for girls and bright mid/electric blue for boys (am I weird for suggesting these colours?)

First

  • taste of ice cream
  • hair cut
  • bow/ribbon in the hair
  • moving from cradle to cot to bed

I didn't think of moving to bed! great suggestion! When do you think most babies/toddlers do that?

Some of the things that are being featured today is the baby scans while still in tummy. Since many fathers go in now for the delivery there are pictures of the baby right after delivery, etc. Colorful colors, soft pastels.

Great input everyone!

Allow me to help! As I have 17 month old twin boys AND i own a small business catered to baby things!

As of right now; Owls and Elephants (particularly pink elephants) are HUGE in nursery themes. Especially pink owls. I think it'd be really awesome if you made baby books for moms of multiples too- since nobody does.

Firsts:
I think its very neat to have baby books start at the beginning, literally.
"My first picture" being the first ultrasound
-first slept through the night
-first smile
-first tooth
-first found my hands and feet
-first laugh
-first clapped
-first rolled over
-first sat up alone
-first crawled
-first solid foods
-first stood by myself
-first step
-first best friend
-first favorite toy
-first vacation
-first family outing
-first time meeting familiy/siblings/pet
-first sang along
-first waved bye bye
-first word
-first drew a picture, or wrote my name
-my first bath
-my frist haircut
-first trip to the zoo
-first trip shopping/library/movies/plane-train-boat ride

-my first HOLIDAY (add any holiday here)

of course you can add the funnies in..
like my first diaper disaster, my first spitup explosion, my first embarassing moment (one of my boys poo'd in the mall as a small infant and it was chaos trying to get him changed), my moms first embarassing moment (going out without wipes), my first finger food, dads first butt-kicking (the time one of my twins ate a bug when dad was supposed to be watching him), there are so many options! It might even be a good idea to buy a baby book & create yours to suit your needs. I know I was super picky when I bought ours! It needed to have "everything"
Current Events is also a really cool thing to have too;
like current fads, current technology, current prices...

Thank you Cipriana! Wow! You are busy! Thanks for all of the suggestions! I would love to make some twin baby books..fun idea. I am currently making a boy 2O page which includes ultrasounds, baby shower, newborn, each month concluding with 1st year birthday, and including each major holiday. I love doing custom books! They are interactive (not digital) so many photos can fit on one page and I add tags and pockets, envelopes, etc. Thanks to all of you for your ideas and "firsts" . My list was not even close to containing everything!

Absolutely! I'm "THAT MOM" running around with a camera and a pen trying to record everything!
To include "day the belly button nub fell off" and "first trip to the ER", hah. If you ever create a facebook business page, let me know! Also, do you cricut?

Most parents move their kids as soon as the little ones start climbing/escaping from the crib! I moved my son from his cradle to a crib when he rolled over b/c he needed the room to roll over - he was 3 months old. I'll move him to a "big bed" when he turns four, only because he's really comfy in his crib and doesn't climb out (this is VERY unusual!). Most people I know move them between 18 months and 3 years.

I agree - I had so many ultrasounds that I have a double-page lay-out for these, including the 3D images!

Carrying on with Judy's suggestions of pre-birth imaging, some first-time Moms I know take special pics before the birth:

  • the growing belly shots - could make a double-page layout!
  • the pregnancy announcement - sometimes a pic (of baby bump, of pee-stick, etc.), sometimes a card, sometimes a status update (screenshot), sometimes a pic of the other parent or the grand-parents;
  • special pics of the baby-bump - a plaster cast, belly-painting, henna, temporary tattoo, special shirt, pregnancy Hallowe'en costume, special portraits...we share EVERYTHING these days!
  • gender reveals (even though this SHOULD be "sex" reveal, technically) - people are now hosting EVENTS for this!
  • just to include it in this list, 3D images look very cool (I'll post my page in the gallery now that I have enough points!)
  • nursery shots - parents take so much care in preparing these rooms!
  • Do you have an optional layout for Christening, Baptism, Dedication, Baby-Naming, Bris, etc.? Even though many people are not "religious" these days, they still like to opt into traditional ceremonies or create their own.

I really like the contemporary colour layouts of black (or brown) and two bright colours.
When my DS was born in 2009, giraffes were EVERYWHERE! Now I seem to see plenty of baby items with stylized bugs and critters. Dinosaurs and butterflies never seem to go out of style.

Nope! Not wrong at all! Especially if included as an accent.
I prefer the brighter layouts to the pastels ANY day! Must be the BRIGHT nursery my Mom made for me over 40 years ago.

With ultrasounds today letting new parents know what they are having, so many are getting away from the yellows, pinks, blues and greens and going towards bright cheery colors

WOW! Jody..you have a lot of great ideas. When I talk to the mom on the phone (which I do for big books), I usually ask some of these questions. If I ask too many, I make my job too hard! smiley But I am going to look at all of the comments over and over until I perfect my lists. Thanks!
