In a Rut

I'm currently in a rut on some pages for my book about my dad. I just don't even want to work on it because it's irritating me. What do you guys do when you're in a rut? I normally just ignore and never come back to but that seems like not a good idea.

Most of the time i save my work and try to get some inspiration by looking through gallery's on the internet. If i can't be inspired then i try a week later or so.

I usually go to a different craft for a while. I was in a rut with scrapbooking last year, so I knit & crocheted a couple sweaters (just in time for Christmas). I was able to clear my head and then scrapbooking was fresh again for me.

When I get stuck I usually take a break. Sometimes it is for a few weeks or so. I usually do something else. It is not uncommon to be working on a couple of things at a time. Taking a break seems to refresh me when I go back and have a new perspective of the project.

Been there and it is no fun. I always take a break and do something else. It helps me.

Today I sort of found a rut buster... I really want to get this book done so I have the actual book. My dad just passed away and I miss him so much that I just want to spend time paging through a scrapbook of him. Crazy I know. I'm kind of ok with that... haha! smiley Anyway, my rut buster was that I went to the challenge page and picked a challenge and picked a new page to do in the book. I have the page nearly done so I think it has worked well so far. smiley I love to hear what you guys do. The problem I'm having is that I want to get this done so bad.

@Heather - This was the advice I was going to give you :p

Sorry for your father. I hope you can scrap a lot if it makes you feel better about it...

I am really easy get bored... When it happened, I usually do my other hobbies... in example making jewelries smiley it really helps me a lot... when I got stuck with jewelries idea then I go start scrapping again... if it's still stuck, I go outside for take a break... maybe I can get fresh ideas for my hobbies.. smiley Good luck!

I usually rotate a couple projects so that I don't get tired of one. I know what you're talking about when you say you're just wanting to get it done. Usually when that happens I take a break and work on something else, despite my overwhelming urge to just push through. Things always turn out better when I take a break and work on something else for a while.

I don't think paging through a scrapbook of your Dad is at all crazy. I think it's beautiful. When I'm in a rut I try something like going fishing. Now I know that really sounds crazy, but I love fly-fishing and it's the most Zen thing that I've ever done. It gives me time to think about what I really want to do with a project, well, at least until I catch a fish and have to think about how to get him in the net anyway. smiley Doing something away from my project really helps, especially when I'm outdoors and look around me and find patterns and colors in nature that inspire whatever project I'm working on at the time. I'm sorry about the loss of your Dad, but creating that scrapbook will be something that you do from the heart that you will cherish for your lifetime. Carpe' Diem!

I get in ruts all the time. I try to work on multiple projects at once, so if I get bored of one I can do another. If that doesn't work I step away from the computer and do something else, usually cleaning and organizing which will help "clear" my brain a little, or I'll play guitar for awhile or go draw/paint on paper or some type of crafty thing with my kiddos. Then I come back to the computer feeling a little more refreshed. Sometimes though I have a bad habit of completely trashing all the work I've done so far and then starting new again...it's not very productive, but sometimes needs to be done when I'm just not feeling the "vibe" of the album I'm working on.

We all get into a rut at times, I think. I take a break and surf through Pinterest to see if there are some cool ideas that I can scraplift. Or, I work on another craft, and come back to scrapping after a day or two. By bringing some fresh eyes and ideas to a lackluster layout, I can usually find my way to get going again. I wish you lots of luck on it. I am working on some pages about my dad, as well. I think it becomes emotional for me, and sometimes it becomes difficult because I want to do such a good job to honor him. smiley

I go to Pinterest and hope to make back out alive in less than a day. smiley
