Customizing Your Work area - Cursor Preferences

Photoshop using visuals to communicate with us. This is how we view how to work with what is on the screen. While we may use various devices to communicate with Photoshop, (drawing tablets, a mouse, touch screen, a track pad, a keyboard, or a graphite board). An example is when we want to enter text we look for the cursor to look like an I-beam. Or when we want to zoom in or zoom out the cursor must look like a magnifying glass. The brush tip means that we are going to use the paint brush tool.

The Cursors Options:
For Windows - Edit > Preferences > Cursors
For Mac - Photoshop > Preferences > Cursors

There are various Painting Cursors options you can use:
○ Standard. Painting cursors look like their toolbox icons.
○ Precise. Painting cursors appear as crosshairs.
○ Normal Brush Tip. Painting cursors appear with the shape of the active brush tip.
○ Full Size Brush Tip. Shows the full size of the brush tip, including feathered edges.
○ Show Crosshair In Brush Tip. Displays a crosshair in the center of the brush tip.
○ Show Only Crosshair While Painting. Displays a crosshair while using a paint brush.

Other Cursors Options to use:
○ Standard. Painting cursors look like their toolbox icons.
○ Precise. Painting cursors appear as crosshairs.
○ Brush Preview. Choose a color for brush editing preview.

To set your preferences Click OK.

Hint: If you press the Caps Lock key while using a paint cursor, it toggles the tool between the precise and brush size options. Pressing the Caps Lock key when using other cursors loggles between standard and precise options.
