Layout Challenge Ideas

Kaleena, I've got a designer challenge scheduled for late June/early July for people to make stacked papers/stacker templates...it could be cool to do a coordinating layout challenge later in July using the results from that challenge, or using a minikit from one of the other designer challenges. I'd love to see a little more cross-collaboration between the challenge forums; it seems sometimes like people focus almost exclusively on one or the other. I'll be trying to do some designer challenges to help fulfill some patron design requests, as well.

Holly: That is a great idea.
Paddy mentioned something way back, like a 'use it all' challenge where all participants use the same supplies to make a layout. I would also love to see product challenges. So many great bundles here. Or just element packs. I was thinking actually of this one.

I was thinking of a challenge that could help set a theme/purpose for a layout. Sometimes I cant think what direction to give my layout, and sometimes photos do not help kick start that. So I was thinking of a challenge similar to "Declare a Color" only you would use a word or short phrase for the next person to create a layout around.

For example: The person creating the thread would give the word "forest" and the next person would create a layout inspired in some way by forest and also provide the next word/phrase like "organize", ect.
Hope this makes sense.

Has this type of challenge ever been done before?

I think this challenge was so great. I couldn't take part but I think it is such a great idea! smiley

I think a clustering challenge would be nice. One where the layout using the cluster is optional. You could give us cluster templates or give a certain number of items, etc...

A Calendar 2019 challenge? smiley

oh yes, pages with calendar 2019 , mounths per mounths! smiley

Okay ideas below

The Good Life monthly kits challenge.

For 2019 Monthly Pocket Spreads.... with the great pocket templates that we already have and that are coming up.

I have some ideas:

Black and white LO with only black and white, or black OR white for an extra challenge
Before and After -- LO that includes some sort of before and after reference, like pre- and post-haircut photos, or a baby photo of mom recreated with her own child
Unbirthday -- a spread commemorating a 'just because' celebration, whether or not it is Alice in Wonderland themed.

New Ideas!! Noone has done any Memorial days so since this is April, I thought maybe someone can do an ANZAC Day challenge for April 2019. This will also work for Memorial day, Poppy Day and Veterans Day whenever those come around...

So I was thinking, since this is April 2019, we could do a layout for ANZAC day - which is the (mostly) british commonwealth memorial day specifically to commemorate the Battle of Gallipolli in Turkey in World War 1. It was fought mostly by Australians, New Zealanders, British and French soldiers so those countries do celebrate ANZAC day on 25 April every year. But I don't know if anyone here at PS had ever thought to remember this holiday so I am just bringing it to your attention. In Memorium. We have to remember the fallen, right? Here are some links....

Hey Robynne, I usually try to keep up with various holidays, celebrations and observances, although being from Canada, I don't always know when other countries celebrate their national observances. I'm sorry, I just recently started a new job and have been a bit overwhelmed. So - I missed your post and didn't get it time for ANZAC Day, but I can incorporate it into a May challenge - the US observes Memorial Day in May. Keep an eye out in November as I usually do a "Remember" type challenge as many countries observe a commemoration on the 11th - Remembrance Day in Canada, Veterans Day in the US, and Armistice Day in many Commonwealth countries.

Thanks for your post! Keep them coming smiley I have a running list of ideas that I fit in amongst the regulars.

It's coming up to Summer time (in the northern hemisphere at least) so I was thinking that perhaps we can have a challenge to make a layout of your Neighbourhood.

Nothing major that identifies it, keep the streets signs out and dont use any distinguishing buildings or statues etc.

But the area around where you live, the parts you frequent the most, and so on.

Even if you only have one photo, you can still scrap that.

Just an idea...

How about :
1. Scrap lift challenge your favorite layout someone else has done
2. 30-days of Thankfulness
3. Past Thanksgiving
4. A Favorite Memory
5. Holiday Family Tradition

Scrap lifts are my favorite.

I also like what Jessica Dunn said

Quote:
For example: The person creating the thread would give the word "forest" and the next person would create a layout inspired in some way by forest and also provide the next word/phrase like "organize", ect.

I'm assuming only designers can create a layout challenge as there is no "new topic" button or any other way to post a challenge for a regular member?? With that said, I thought it would be fun to do a challenge in December for Christmas called "These are a few of my favorite things"..... to go with the Christmas song smiley

@Dianne ~ Well only moderators for that forum section can create layout challenges. And you don't have to be a designer to be a moderator. Occasionally Marisa is looking for new moderators and when she does she puts out a post about it. But she has threads like this where we all can post our ideas smiley

Thank you Jessica smiley

  • Song lyrics
  • Color Palette for Summer
  • Roadtrip
  • favorite things
    • Neighborhood Walk
    • Staycation

"All About Me" or "All About Us" challenge?

How about a Harry Potter or a Magic Challenge?

I know we have had at least one Magic challenge before, but no specifically Harry Potter challenge that I know of.

I just thought of this idea earlier. Not sure if this was done in the past but I thought it would be interesting. Pick your least favorite layout in your own gallery and redo it to fix what you don't like. Or something along those lines. Or Maybe pick your least favorite layout from your own gallery and post it and the next person can scraplift it. Just a thought.

Melanie, I really like that idea. It might be one I'd actually do, too. I know I've got past pages from calendars I've done for my parents that I wasn't so happy with when I finished. Maybe redoing those would make me happier with them.

I've put it on the list Melanie!

A gallery scavenger hunt. Finding pages in the gallery that match a scavenger list.

I'm enjoying the rolling challenges these days . . . where you take the shape/color/theme/gallery to scraplift posted and post a new one for the next person. And it works with so many variations!

Here's an old challenge I just remembered - create a layout inspired by a magazine advertisement

@Linda - I used to love the magazine challenges (they work especially well for us 8.5x11 scrappers smiley ). I also remember an artwork challenge, where your layout was inspired by a given piece of art (that took more interpretation!)
