Have you ever noticed that you had a life before and after art. Like before I wouldnt be pissed that some coworkers laughed at a scrapbooking workshop flyer I placed on the bulletin board but now I am. And how I cant imagine anyone not being enthusiastic about attending a workshop, even when I invited them as a treat.
Or most of you have already been into it since you were kids so there's no transition?
My creative interests are very circular. Sometimes I'm into things that are very digital and other times I want paint on my hands and paper scraps everywhere. Other times I'm into writing fiction and that gives me my creative release. As long as I'm exercising that part of my soul, it doesn't seem to matter how I do it.
Depending on where I am in my cycle, I'm into very different things. When I'm at the height of my paper journaling passion, I'm constantly scouring thrift stores for old magazines to collage or interesting textures to use in my monoprints. Right now I'm all digital all the time, so I don't care about that stuff right now.
I try not to make any huge choices when I'm at a low point in a hobby though. Like, I wouldn't just go into my studio and purge all my stencils just because I haven't done any spray painting in the past 6 months. I know that I'll use them again soon.
As far as my life before all this, I'm not sure there was ever a time I wasn't doing something creative. When I was really little I would doodle girls on any free scrap of paper I could find. From about 6th grade on, writing was my passion. I carried a notebook with me everywhere and wrote furiously whenever I had a spare minute. Once I had an income I started buying art supplies and that's when I added that into my rotation and it's been a part of my life ever since.
I agree with Wren. Drawing has always been in the background and so has designing, whether it's for cross stitch, knitting, or digital design. I have noticed I throw myself into what ever I am currently "into" and buy loads of stuff that I don't always get round to using. I have had to sell a lot of my rubber stamps, for example as I wasn't using them. It is nearly always because of time constraints. My ideal world would be to get up, craft till bedtime! Oddly enough my husband expects me to do things like housework!!!
That's awesome Wren and Angela. Youve made me less guilty of the pile of stuff Ive neglected.
The search for a latebloomer like myself still goes on though.
I have always yearned to be an artist, but am all thumbs with pencil or paint. I just freeze up. I have indulged my passion in handwork for years: crochet, knitting, cross stitch, quilting, sewing. Imagine my delight when I discovered the world of digi. Am the happiest creatively that I have ever been in my life. It brings me such joy to be able to create beautiful art with a click of the mouse. It has especially been fun to see myself develop in this "medium" and hear my family and friends' amazement at the style I have developed. Thank goodness for digital design.!! Of course my sewing machine, knitting needles, and fabric are sad......they are packed away for now!
@nan I know what you mean! But instead of the sewing arts I've channelled it into sort of making collages. Hope to be as good as you guys when it comes to digiart.
