Designer Challenge - layered template - flower

Oh, that's the easy part ... every petal of the flower has two layers - the lower layer is the "whole" petal (f. e. filled with the striped tan color) and the layer on top is an outside border selection of this petal and the filter (or Photoshop style) is only on this layer. So the whole flower is composed of more than 40 layers ...

Gonda, these flowers are gorgeous. Thank you so much for creating them.

Robin there's some wire / metal styles on PS that would work great for creating the metal look.

Thank you, Gina, for the idea and the template. So these flowers are really your "fault" smiley
I will upload a few more to the commons, but for now I reached my upload limit.

I have hosted a lot of pics at tinypic and they are closing. As a result, many (most) of my images will disappear from the forums. I am sorry about that because I cannot replace all of them.

Hi everyone,

I decided to try this challenge, and I wanted to post my flower. Its not as fancy as the lovely designs you have all posted, but I hope its ok.

@ Susan. Your flower is lovely. I'm loving the soft pink color you chose. Thank you for sharing it here. smiley

@ Gina. Thanks for your kind words, and for this fun challenge!

thank you for the png files, I also use other programs. be right back with mine once created! smiley

took a few goes, to up load smiley
My main graphic programme ewhich I used here, is Inkscape, the png took a bit of converting, I went for delicate pink. 8 layers, one kind of hidden tho!
I learnt that to make a mask makes a lovely delicate lace layer, once you play with opacity.thanks for the challenge.

Thank you for sharing your delicate flower Gill. I'm especially glad that you shared what program you used. I am always interested in what programs others use. I tried Inkscape several years ago but never got the hang of it. smiley

THanks Gina, I hesitated at first, wary of trying to advertise! I used inkscape first of all, years ago, switched to AI (cos it was one time purchase -even that was a second hand one) then back again when AI became unaffordable for me. THere are some things it does better, some things missing. the version just released is more intuitive than ever. Just beginning the scrapbooking thing, but aiming mostly for others to use, since design is my main love. have just bought Rip Studio....what fun smiley

I had not heard of Rip Studio so I googled it. I cannot wait to see what you create with.

Thanks for the template Gina. I put my flower in commons. I will use it in the September 2020 blog train.

This is what I made of the flower Challenge

Awesome, Esther, off to dl... oops.

Thanks Bina

@Esther & Tricia, I love what you did with the template. I look forward to seeing what else you both create.

@Gina Thanks, I posted a few layouts in the gallery and looking around the internet for nice tutorials to make my own elements but that is hard to find....I found some site with scripts ( I work with PSP) to make them but I want to learn for myself.
Any tips smiley

I started with PSP but haven't used it since I switched to a mac. I'm lousy at following tutorials. I prefer to look at the end result and try to figure out how to recreate it on my own. I am not always successful but in the process of trying, I usually learn something new that I can use.

Marisa has a lot of useful PS tutorials. If you know your way around PSP, you might be able to adapt them for your needs.

If you download DigitalScrapbook.com's premium graphics or kits, you can edit and/or re-create those items. I'd suggest starting with something like this GRAB BAG #27 and see what you can create with those elements.

There's also this DESIGNER CHALLENGE - WINTER RE-MIX .

It's been far too long since I've been able to digital scrapbook. Doing a little bit here and there is such fun!

@Janet, I love your flower, especially the sprinkle of glitter on the edges.

@Janet, that flower is gorgeous! And I'm so glad to see you here again! I hope all is well with you!

@Esther: The two easiest ways to make your own elements are drawing shapes (which you then apply styles to or clip papers to) and extracting them from the backgrounds of photographed or scanned images. I'm more of a fan of the extracted type, because I can use that to add everything from realistic flowers and jewelry pieces to cutouts of watercolor or colored pencil artwork, real ribbons, stamped letters, etc.

As far as good PSP-based sites to learn from, Caroline Cassel is a member here at DigitalScrapbook.com. She has ScrapbookCampus.com where she has digital scrapbooking classes designed for PSP, and of course her CreationsCassel site has lots of scripts for sale. Once you've learned how to create your own shapes and styles, though, it's just as easy (and much more budget-friendly!) to create your own elements.

Thanks so much Gina and Lisel. smiley @Lisel, it has been ages! It was nice to be able to dip my toes in the water again with this challenge. Getting situated at my full time job (as much as I love it) has taken far too long. I'm not one to give anything part way. Though now that I'm settled, I'm enjoying being able to do design digi scrapping kits again. Hoping all is well with you too!

Awesome, Janet! Yes, all is well here, getting my son ready for college (ok, no, I'm really trying to let go of his responsibilities----but him being 18 now, he thinks he knows everything and doesn't need to do things on time because he's an ADULT, and doesn't HAVE to do what Mom or Dad says.....oy!), and preparing for a scrap weekend that is MUCH needed! Fun times!

@Lisel, glad to hear it! Yes, I hear ya on attempting to let go of responsibilities and kiddos knowing everything (I'm just beginning to enter this phase with my eldest). Oof, it's tough! Hope you have a great scrap weekend where you can enjoy friends and focus on some you time! smiley

Awesome flower Lynn. I love your color choice. smiley

Thank you for joining us in this challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your designs.

I used a watercolour pattern and a grungy texture. I also chose to use a bead for the middle of the flower.

Excellent flower Lois. I am a huge fan of watercolor and (especially) grunge.

Thank you for joining this challenge. smiley
