Why You Should Use Grids on Your Digital Scrapbooking Layouts - Gallery Spotlight: January 2021
Back to sharing a few of my favorite layouts from the gallery from the last month! I was inspired by all the awesome grid layouts to focus in on why using a grid on your digital scrapbooking layout is such a great tool.
This layout by Becky uses a simple grid layout for a great effect. If you have a lot of photos you want to use on a page, don't be afraid to line them up! Then add in your pizzazz with a few elements.
This horizontal grid layout by Lou is simple but extremely eye-catching. A layout like this is a great way to make use of pocket cards if you're not a pocket scrapper.
This layout by Claire is a great example of how to add just a little pizzazz to a grid to make your layout really stand out. The elements are placed just off the grid enough to create some drama, but she didn't add too much to detract from the orderliness of the vertical grid.
Don't be afraid to take your grid to the edges of your canvas. This layout by Joy alternates photos with papers and a lovely title/quote. A few well placed elements complete the look.
This three column grid by Linda alternates photos with a lot of journaling. When you have a lot of text and a lot of photos, a grid will help you to make sure things don't get lost when everything is important.
Heidi uses a simple 2x2 grid to arrange her photos in this layout. Leaving one of the spots on the grid blank creates interest and a little bit of random tilts to all the layers keeps things exciting.
I love how Cherry uses the grid in the background with some well placed clusters on top. Again, the grid helps keeps things organized and helps you to know where to look.
This simple grid by Angie keeps things exciting with a slight tilt. The fun paper layers in the background also add a little interest without creating something overwhelming.
This grid layout by Sharon-Dewi alternates photos and elements in the grid to keep things tidy but interesting.
If you've been inspired by these grid layouts, but need a little help getting started, check out these layout templates.
While these layout templates are titled as pocket page layouts, you can always fill the grid space and then use it as the focal point on your layout, much like the look Sharon-Dewi achieved with her Christmas layout.
I hope you found all these grid layouts inspiring. I know I did!

About Me
Hi There! I’m Marisa Lerin and you’ll see me around at DigitalScrapbook.com a lot. I started this site in 2010 soon after I discovered a new love in digital scrapbooking. DigitalScrapbook.com has gone through some significant changes since that time and it’s grown into this lovely community site you are seeing now. I am daily surprised by the turn of life’s events that has led me down this path. If you're new to the site, welcome! Here are a few tidbits about me that I hope will help you get to know me better!
I’m originally from Minnesota, USA, but spent a good chunk of my childhood living abroad (in Bolivia and Hong Kong). I returned to Minnesota to attend university, got married and then moved overseas again (Korea, then Jordan and 1 year of traveling). My designs are heavily influenced by these many nomadic years. I am currently back in the USA, now living in the great state of Oregon!
I have no official training for what I’m doing, since I decided very wisely (haha) to study physics in university. I am always learning new things about digital scrapbooking, and this community has been immensely helpful for that!
If I manage to stop digital scrapbooking you will probably find me watching TV, reading or baking. I also enjoy writing for the blog here at DigitalScrapbook.com where I talk about whatever happens to be catching my fancy at the moment.
