PS Aug Book Club Schedule: Wicked

I'm thinking to post questions while we go through the book, rather than waited until the end. So be sure if you read ahead, not to write about anything past the assigned reading!! Also, if you get behind, just come visit the thread once your ready. I'm sure you won't be the only one!

Question Table of Contents
In order to keep the forum from getting flooded, I will just sticky this thread, but link to the questions here so you can find them.

PreReading

  1. Do you like to ready Fantasy? Do you hate it? Why?
  2. Do you have any experience with The Wizard of Oz world? How are you expecting this setting to affect the book?
  3. Discussion of cover art.

So excited!

oooh, sounds exciting.

Is this the book by Gregory Maguire? Wicked: Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (Wicked Years)?

Yes, that's the one.

I'll give it a go!

Just purchased my Kindle version! Yay!

Book arrived today smiley Just have to finish reading what I'm in the middle of and I'll dive in.

I cannot wait to get started! So excited about this book club idea!

I read Wicked last year, I must find it in the library so I can join in.
Saw the musical before I read any of the books, which is always an interesting perspective.

Yay, bought it for kindle last night. Ready to start!

I just checked mine out of the library today, I better get started!

Just a warning for anyone who's seen the musical and thinks that's what it's going to be, it's almost nothing like it! Wicked the musical is very loosely based off from the book. I've read the book many times, but if I have time, I may just pick it up again and go along. smiley

I've never participated in a book club before but this book grabbed me right off the bat!! First I live in Kansas, I've heard every wizard of oz joke there is and love them all! It's part of being born a Kansan. I haven't read any of the other Wizard of Oz books and this one sounds very interesting to me.

Pre-reading questions
Yes, Fantasy and Sci-Fi are my favorite genres
I'm really only familiar with the original Wizard of Oz so reading something related but different excites me
The cover art with the white witch whispering in the wicked witch of the west's ear makes me immediately interested. I can't wait to start this book!!

Off to the Kindle store smiley

Your cover art and that on Amazon is totally different. Are we seeing the same book? Even the notation is different. smiley

There are multiple covers. See here for the discussion.

Just downloading the audio book now ready to start listening on my commute to work in the next town tomorrow. So pleased to hear that everyone is excited about reading this book.

I got the book from the library and got through a couple chapters but had to stop. It was very painful to read. I love reading, but this book apparently is just not my cup of tea. I hope to join in the next one.

Is was a bit rougher than I was expecting. The second part was definitely better than the first part, which I thought was more or less terrible. But then, who knows where it's going.

I did want to join in, but I can't get a signal on my Kindle (we are away in the caravan). It's odd because I can get a signal on my lap top!
