Adding a Glitter Border

You can find the flower template that I'm using in this tutorial here and the finished asset here.

I've already recolored the layers and I'm going to start by selecting the bottom layer and duplicating it. Select the new duplicated layer with your magic wand.

Now go to Select -> Modify -> Contract

The amount you enter here will be the width of the border. I'm going to use 20px.

Next, click on the "Refine Edge" box.

Set the "Smooth" bar to 2. This will eliminate jagged edges when we delete the rest of the layer.

Now hit delete, and the rest of the layer will disappear leaving just a border. I've added a glitter layer style to the new border layer.

I usually include a slight bevel to the glitter layer styles that I have for download. But if that isn't included, I'd suggest adding a small bevel to give the glitter a little depth.

Finished!

Also love the links to previous tutorials to look it up quickly.

Thank you so much for helping out with this. As a total newbie to this kind of stuff, I know nothing. I greatly appreciate your sharing of knowledge. smiley

Love the Designer Behind the Scenes feature! Once you explained it, it seemed so obvious what you did to get the effect. But, then again, I wouldn't have thought to add a glitter edge to the flower in the first place!

Very helpful tutorial! Always learning something new with Photoshop....this helps a bunch and can be applied to so many things! Thank you so much!

Thanks for this tutorial...it's very helpful and adds so much more interest to a design element!

I love glitter and never get enough of it. It is such a great tut. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks, I am looking forward to trying this out.

Great idea!! smiley

Thank you for the tip on this one!

this is so helpful, thanks so much!

Glitter in this application isn't too difficult, but I have a hard time when trying to achieve randomness with the glitter effect. I've tried splatter type masks, but it still always looks like It was placed there, like I glued it in blobs. I'm trying to find a way to make it look like glitter was spilled onto the page without adhesive.

I'll have to try this one some day when I have the time to work on it.

Thank you so much ! smiley smiley

Isn't it amazing how something can be so simple in photoshop and we miss it ... thank you ..... you can also select your element by using the 'holding control and clicking on the thumbnail of your layer' option .... it is one less step lol
