Building motivation for BIG projects?

So hi everyone! This is something like my second or third post, so if it's in the wrong place I'm incredibly sorry!

Recently, a dear friend of mine visited me in Switzerland from Australia. That's one heck of a long-haul flight for her, and once she was here, we made a whirlwind trip of Europe to visit OTHER friends of ours on this continent- you don't leave yours without fitting in all the visits possible.

The "fallout" let's say, of this visit, is 5 weeks worth of photos with 8 destinations. She has the artistic inclination of a thimble, which means if I want the pictures to ever live anywhere but a Facebook album, I've got to be the one to do it. <.<; Long preamble leads into the question at hand-

How do you folks go about building up motivation for really BIG projects? At this time, I've broken everything down into destination-based folders, so it's more like 8 "chapters" with between 10 and 36 pages to try and make it seem more bite-sized and manageable. :'D

We did have a thread somewhat related to this at some point, but I'm not really sure where it is at this point...

You can see the "book" I made for my trip through Europe, which has a similar idea to what you're talking about. I used a different kit for each city and then tied it all together with title pages: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chasingdonguri/sets/72157628156267275/

I usually start out with the big picture and decide how I want the overall project to look and feel. Once that's done, then I do what you did and break it down into parts that go together. After that, I ignore everything I did, and just tackle it one page at a time. At least that's how I started my wedding album - which by the way isn't finished - and another by the way my anniversary is this Wednesday coming up (9 years). So you see, you don't have to do it all at once.

Marisa: I kind of thought there might have been, but I wasn't able to track it down in my drifting and sifting. smiley I like the multi-kit approach, I'd moved in that direction yesterday to some extent when working with my projection for what I thought I wanted to do. Wooh!

Cat: Oh lord, I hope it doesn't take me that long to finish this album. By then she'll have come back for round two and I'll have twice as much work to do. Aaaaaaah!! I know me, though. I'll procrastinate if I don't get on it and push myself. <.<;;

I've made it to page 54, yippee!

I've discovered that if I set up some self-produced templates, my productivity goes way up. I still end up tweaking the templates as I'm using them, but giving myself somewhere to start makes it a lot less intimidating. Using elements and colours, (and rotating the template) is thus far giving me enough variety that it's not making me cringe at the "sameness", too.

Way to go!

I break a project down depending on how many pages it'll be. For our short Disney trip, I pulled out 4-6 templates that mix and match together well. Then I'm limiting myself to 1 kit overall, and a few extra embellishments. After I do the pages, I'll go back and see if I want to add any additional elements.

For the year in review I do for our birth mother, I limit myself to 6-8 templates, and 2 kits that mix together well. This keeps me on task because I'm not sifting through all my supplies, or getting distracted.
