I am wondering if you have done a tutorial on how to use a layout template in power point? I downloaded one but have no idea how to use it since the picture slots are black and not transparent.
@Gina: The layout templates wont work in Powerpoint, they are created to work in a program that uses PSD file formats like Photoshop. You can always use the JPG image as a sketch and use it help you place your layers.
The Xs are just suggestions for where to cluster your elements.
