Designer Challenge - Mini Kit MY FAVORITE (Book, Movie, or Show)

I thought it will be fun if we work on a theme that speaks to our hearts. I want you to make a kit inspired by your favorite book, movie or tv show - this idea is from the designer ideas list.

For this challenge, I want you to make

  • 10 pattern papers + optional solids
  • 30 elements (20 universal and 10 themed)
  • 10 word art pieces (5 universal and 5 themed)
  • pick your own color palette to match your choice

When creating, just make sure not to infringe copyrights. It is supposed to be inspired by something so don't use trademarked graphics.

Wow!! Fun Idea!!
Going to work on Tom and Jerry..Is there any due date??

I will try. I have some difficulty to choose color palettes, but this challenge will encourage me to practice. Thanks.

I am in doubt as to the issues, but I think it will be one of these:

Book: Harry Potter.
Movie: Goonies.
Show: Doctor Who.

Cruel Doubt.

Sherry - there is no due date for this one but sooner you make it the sooner we can see it. smiley

This will be the elements and solid papers. Now, I will work the rest of the kit.

These look great. Question though did you meant to write Chocolate on the candy bar?

Thank you, Ania. To make the chocolate bar, recolor in Photoshop an image of the original chocolate bar, hiding the logo just cutting and pasting the parts without text. Then I typed the name "chocolat" over and applied some texture effects. I hope you have understood. (Translated by Google Translator)

But... think I need to correct the text for "chocolate", right?

Great kit Tamara. For me, chocolat is just perfect as it is the french word for chocolate. smiley

Thak you, Liza. Let the kit anyway, then. I'm working on patterned papers. Soon, the public preview.

The Patterned papers.

Great papers Tamara.

Finally, I believe I made the challenge. Follow the Word Art. Tomorrow, I will work in terms of use and references. also will create a preview with all items (papers, elements and word art). Of course, I will provide the link to download.

Well, as you may have noticed, I am not very good with the English language (use Google Translator). So, I would ask you to correct me as the Word Art, if they encounter a serious mistake, so I can fix before releasing the kit.

I would like to try I think I would like to use the movie Frozen as a theme

My Daughter loves Frozen! Beautiful movie.

Oh my gosh!!! I need to be part of this challenge, I would be making a kit about my favorite movie of all time: Labyrinth (RIP David smiley ).

"When creating, just make sure not to infringe copyrights. It is supposed to be inspired by something so don't use trademarked graphics."

After years being part of Deviant Art I participated in a lot of copyright infringement discussions, including signing a petition against SOPA that would make ILLEGAL these kind of designs that fall within the "fan art" category. Fan art is basically considered freedom of speech...that's where common sense enters.

Please please please I recommend reading this article (https://www.plagiarismtoday.com/2010/05/13/the-messy-world-of-fan-art-and-copyright/) it is short and simple and clarifies any doubts about fan art, but to summarize:

  • the design has to be derivative, meaning you cannot copy, you design your own version...perfect example is the cute Sloth from Goonies designed by Tamara, that's the most perfect clean beautiful fan art I ever saw, Tamara you are awesome!
  • you have no rights whatsoever to any derivative work (fan art) you do on top of a copyrighted material
  • never try to have any profits off of your fan art

smiley that's it, enjoy!

Thanks Daniele for explaining the fan art and copyright issue. It is very good explanations.

You are welcome Ania.

And if in doubt you can also choose a favorite book or movie that's already in the Public Domain, this way you have more creative freedom.

P.S.: I don't think there are any TV Series in the public domain just yet, maybe those old movie theatre serials from the beginning of the 20th Century.

Take a look at these links:

List of Movies in the Public Domain in the USA

List of Famous Books in the Public Domain

Cheers!

Thanks for the instructions, Daniela. I suffered a bit to be correct as to copyright. I honestly do not know if I could. My biggest fear was precisely as the Sloth design and as the kiss silhouette (which produced the Illustrator through real images). I also had doubts about the shirt. Very complicated that area. It is discouraging, actually.

Thanks too for the links.

Thinking of old books, I remembered who I always loved: Wuthering Heights. I will try to make the next kit with this theme. And this is the list of books with the public domain! Yey!

Tamara, eu amo o seu kit, adoro o filme do Goonies tbm! Com certeza vou estar dando download smiley

Translation: Tamara, I love your kit, I love The Goonies movie too! I will definitely be downloading it smiley
