Designer Challenge - Set of Brads

This week we could work with brads. Brads are very popular and you can see them in every kit.

This weeks challenge:
- create set of 10 brads
- use neutral colors so the brads could be used with any kind of a kit (white, black, beige, cream, gray)
- use generic shapes (butterflies, flowers, leaves, arrows, etc.) and word art.

You can use templates found in this search and if you are not sure how to use them here is a tutorial from Marisa: Using a Brad Template

More brad-dy than flair-ry? I love making flairs.... but I've lost my bug.....

my design bug smiley

France, it will return! I was in a design slump for a while too. It's slowly returning! Don't give up hope! I'll try these brads but I think I might struggle with this one.

France, I have days strung together when I don't open up PSE or PSP - don't want to even THINK about designing. Makes me wonder how on earth designers come up with so much stuff all the time!! I think flairs would be okay. I did some googling and they look pretty much the same to me lol. Some have metal rims, some don't.

Ania, this is a perfect challenge as I'm working on a kit to hopefully be my first to try selling. I made some for the kit and the ones I'm making for this challenge may be ... may be ... something I consider also selling separately.

Thanks Melanie and Lisa Marie! Maybe I'll make brads to go with the kit I can't complete, that way when I get to completing it it'll be HUUUGE! LOL!!!
I'm glad to know it's not just me.
I'm currently a guest on Connie Prince's CT and My Oh My she comes up with so much stuff and it's all so pretty!!! I believe she partners with some people for the word art and for the stacked (pre-decorated) papers, and it's just fabulous, each kit is a HUGE collection. But like you said Melanie, I'm not sure how she does it!
Of course, for some people it's their full time job that of designing... I have an almost-full-time job on top of all the regular stuff from being a mum/mom (and wife! LOL!).

Since I've been admiring kits from afar since before joining PS, I've always liked Connie Prince's work. Ooh La La is another one. Their style is the type I'm drawn to and how (I think) I design. I lose my mojo when I become overwhelmed with the possibilities of what I can design. When I see those huge packs and all the ways you can separate the different parts, I sit and look at PSE or PSP and my mind just goes blank instead of focusing on one thing and going with it! lol One reason why I like these challenges. They help me focus. I've already got my brad set made and hope to have them up later.

I'd love to design full time, but like you, I have other things that either need my attention, or I turn to when I've lost said mojo lol.

Okay, here's mine. These are pretty basic and I just used the colors you suggested, Ania. I started to make them a wee bit more dressy, but stuck to basic. I haven't "termed" them yet because I don't know if I want to offer them up as freebies, or save them for later to add to a store when I have one.

Great Job, Lisa!

Thank you, Charly! I should have lightened up them shadows even though it's just for preview only. Oddly, they look a little darker on my Mac than they did at work on the PC lol.

-Lisa

Lisa your brads look great but did you consider using words like (happy, smile - which are generic) or elements such as flowers or butterflies inside of them to give them more playful look?

Nice job Lisa!!

France, thank you smiley

Ania, I absolutely did think about adding generic words! For some reason, that part ended up going la-la-la-bye-bye. smiley I think I'll work on a new set now. Those up there are still useful I hope?

-Lisa

Oh yes Lisa, those are great. it was just a suggestion. smiley

Ania, it was a good suggestion! Should have gone with my gut and did it the first time lol. Previews for brads are hard since they can't be full size lol. In case you can't quite see the arrow, flower, and leaf here's what they say:

-Arrow: "Gotta love this"
-Flower: "Bloom where you are planted."
-Leaf: "Play"

I wanted to keep the leaf and couldn't think of a darn thing "leafy"! Kept thinking playing in the (autumn) leaves, so ... smiley

These look great Lisa

Thanks, Ania!

Hey ladies! So, I decided to jump in on this one. (I didn't see a deadline.) I really challenged myself on this and refused to use any templates. I also wanted to make them as realistic looking as possible, since that's my favorite style of digiscrap. After trial and error (and finding a great tutorial online), I got it down! So... here's a set of 10 B&W brads. You can download them from my blog. Enjoy! smiley

I loooooove these Amanda. I'm just crazy about the smiley face smiley

I decided to give this challenge a try. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but playing around to make these started an avalanche of ideas. Like I need more things on my list right now! We are moving in less than 4 weeks, and I have a lot to do before then. Any more designing may have to wait a while! smiley

Those are lovely Beth Ann. Are you going to offer them for download somewhere? I like how you named the set "Classic Elegance." I'm terrible with trying to name things. smiley

Thank you, Amanda! Names just come to me. It's kind of the 'feel' I have for something whether it's a project or an animal! LOL And yes, I will be offering these for download. I'm working on the folder and will have it on my site as soon as it's ready, with a thread and post in the Freebies forum here on PS.
I whipped these up last night while I was watching West Wing with my daughter. I think it took me about 3-4 hours, mainly because GIMP is still trial and error for me where some things are concerned. I used templates from PS for all of these, but I finally got a working script for bevels and embossing, so I'm really going to have to sit on myself to stick to the packing. But once I get to Oklahoma, I know I'm going to spend more time with GIMP! smiley ( So you'll see more from me here! )

What super cute brads so far!!!

BethAnn your brads are very pretty. I love how each one is different.

Thanks, France & Ania. I really enjoyed making these and look forward to trying some of the other challenges in the future.

Amanda, Your brads are so fun! I love them!

Thank you Betsy. smiley

Amanda's fun brads inspired me to make a little kit for this challenge. You can download it from my blog!

Very cute brads, Amanda. Do you mind sharing the tut you found?

-Lisa

Cute Betsy! I love the "flower is another word for happy" one!

@Amanda: Thank you for sharing the link to the tutorial. I've put it on my list to try as soon as we move. I don't dare look into it before then, or I know I'll get sucked into the black hole and fall behind on packing! smiley
