Burnout on Downloading...

So... tonight after a somewhat crazy week so far... I came to the end of one of the DD's where it would have been the last part of a kit... and I'll be a monkey's uncle if I didn't miss the last day by 30 seconds. smiley

I say this to ask... have any of you fell so in love with the way we do things here at PS that you are kind of fed up with these sites that offer an adorable kit (mind you I've quit downloading much anywhere else except on rare occasions lately, like iNSD & and really AWESOME kits) but this one was ah'dor'able by one of my oldie but goodie fav designers for about 10 years!!!!

I just feel so burnt out of these sites trying to get their "stats" up that they make us come there every day by a certain time and (tough luck if your late, you can pay the full price of the entire kit for missing one small portion) but mind you if they forget to upload it or have a life crisis and put it up 10 hours late... too bad for you!

I just feel like some designers are losing site of the why we scrap. I guess what I mean by burn-out is I feel the torture of the stress involved in trying to "catch a moving butterfly" so to speak before it dies. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how we do things here. I mean if I can't make it to the website until 12:15 am or 3 pm pacific time or whatever time zone your in... it doesn't matter! I still have the same opportunity (despite my not so perfect schedule) to get the same treatment as anyone else that is a part of our wonderful site. And I think it's TOTALLY spoiling me to NOT go anywhere else hardly ever... (and YES, I'm busted!!! I will still probably be just like the rest of you and a crazed downloading queen, bad wife on INSD, but... for everyday life... I think I'm kaput!) smiley

Poor Shawna ... lol .. maybe you can email the site and explain ? ... maybe they will give it to you ? ... worth a try

I am following a daily download now, but am frustrated that I have two come to work to download on the weekend. We don't have internet at the house so I have to drive to town, turn on the office computer, and download so I don't miss a part of the kit. I like how DigitalScrapbook.com does it, I can miss a day of downloading because I pick what items I want to download so I can get every part of a kit without the stress. I also like that gingerscraps has a daily download but they keep the downloads up for 5 days, so if I miss a day I can still get that part of it. I do wish other sites would do this.

Here, Here Marel! I, too like the way GS does it on their blog for 5 days... and you don't have to jump through the hoops of signing in to the store and blah blah blah and miss it if you're there right at midnight... AND they give you a HUGE kit by the end of the month. smiley

@Susan: I'm pathetic... First off I'm probably just "too lazy" smiley to write a long email giving my stupid pity story... just to get one or two papers and the z to an alpha (or what ever embelly it is... ) LoL I like to grab, say a quick thank you, and run... "hangs head in shame" smiley

I hope I didn't sound like I was complaining for people's lovely gifts... I was more trying to express I've become spoiled at how good we got it here with our awesome freebies and memberships.... I LOVE this place and all our generous MEMBERS!!!! It is almost the only place I go anymore. I maybe hit up 3-4 other places in a given week... remember NOT counting iNSD. smiley smiley smiley

Shawna - PS is not *spoiling* us, it's setting us *free*!

i'm in love with this concept of a stress-free 365 on-line library where you can just grab the bits you need at the moment to complete a page and move on! no need to bulk download, worry about storage space, keep a schedule...plus, i feel like PS designers provide us with everything we could ever possibly need for our scrap albums

Viva PS! smiley

I totally agree with the fact that some people lose sense of why we scrap, and also why we design. I started designing and scrapping because it is FUN for me. I love scrapping the memories of my family, and the entire act of designing is very therapeutic for me as far as calming down at the end of a busy day. I am a little burnt out on some things as well, just in a different sense. I am disappointed that most people see this as a quick money making scheme or drive traffic to their "scrapbook site/store" and themselves don't even participate in the art of scrapbooking. I really adore DigitalScrapbook.com because all the designers are really into their work, and don't really seem to be hungry for that dollar. smiley

I think that is what drew(grammar?) me to this sight in the first place. I love it here and only visit 1 or 2 other sites, but I have PS on my bookmark bar! I don't mind paying a monthly fee if I feel like it's worth it to me. I only have 3 subscriptions, here, Just Jaimee Storyteller (because I LOVE her style and she gives a ton of stuff each month) and Photoshop CC (if I didn't the other two would be useless, lol). I really want to start designing and if I do I will most likely only offer it here in the freebies thread, at first.

I have my scrip here and Photoshop just like you Melanie! smiley I visit a few other sites and participate in the blogtrains, but I generally avoid sites/designers like what I mentioned.

I don't know, Nicole...I don't expect my dentist to fix my teeth for free, and I don't expect my scrapbook designers to work for nothing, either. Not everyone can afford to give their stuff away, even if they are really talented and love to create. As a designer, if I can't cover the cost of the software and bandwidth and the listing/ hosting and whatnot, I won't be able to continue, regardless of how much I enjoy designing.

LOL, I don't know if that came out quite right. smiley I don't mean designers should give their stuff away; I've spent SO much money in scrapbook stuff myself. smiley I actually think sometimes too much is given away for free on the internet and in turn lowers the value of great design work of all types. But, I guess to use the same scenario, you wouldn't ask your dentist to fix your teeth for free of course, but would you use a dentist that did not practice that he charged you for?

I have been/am a member of quite a few scrapping communities, and when I see someone who has that "buy my stuff, look at my sale, make pages using my kits, etc" attitude, but they themselves have never scrapped a page or are really familiar with scrapbooking. Digital designing on this scale is really just a small business, and most small businesses have an owner that is familiar with what they are selling.

Again, it may not sound right the way I have typed it, lol.

@Paddy: I love the way you expressed/said it!!! This is exactly how I feel and wasn't really able to say it as easily. smiley

I couldn´t agree more Nicole! You must be a scrapper before thinking on designing, IMHO. Because digiscrap designing is really specific.

I see what you mean, Nicole smiley As long as you don't expect your designers to be *great* at scrapbooking...because frankly, I'm better at designing (and I enjoy it more anyhow)!

I get super frustrated when a site sends me a newsletter every single day for a week with the same download link to an item or a portion of a kit I'm collecting one piece at a time because by the end of the week, I forget if I've already gone there and downloaded it, go back there again and go through the whole process of signing in, adding it to my cart, etc., only to discover that I've already downloaded it! I've slept a lot between the first and last day of the link advertisement and totally forgotten if i downloaded it. I'm frustrated with myself for not remembering what I've done smiley

i absolutely have no problem with the daily downloads. I honestly love them, it gives people who are on a very tight budget a chance to try scrapbooking and it gives you the opportunity to see some of the designers work! I love to see what kind of stuff people make before i spend my money. Previews can look amazing but the kits can still suck and visa versa.
I made a folder in my favoritesfolder, where the daily downloads are. The links lead me to the exact pages i need to get the downloads the fastest. The logins for the websites are registered on my computer so it doesn't even take me 5 minutes to collect them every day.

I do have internet and a computer at home, so that helps a lot.

The stuff that bumms me out is indeed what Debra said, all the newsletters smiley But thank god unsubscribing still exists on most sites smiley

I feel the same as Debra. I like the way the DDs are run here. If you miss a day it's no bother!

Yes, I totally agree with what you all say here. I love the way it works on PS!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels that way! I followed several for a while but it just got too hard to do it every day. Gingerscraps is the only one I download now because I only have to hit the site every 5 days. PS is definitely where I spend most of my time. Adorable kits, tons of templates and great tutorials for us beginners. Who could ask for more?!

As like you all I also like all the simple yet clean method PS maintains..Great advantages are available here for both beginners and masters!!

I'm the same! I inevitably forget to check back each day and then I've missed parts of the kit. smiley

I love how things are done on PS and it's definitely my go-to-site. Wish every site was as easy to use as this one!
