Does anyone have the Project Life App?

So a few days ago I found out via instagram that the Project Life App is available for android devices. I'm excited and plan to purchase the app for $2.99. I was wondering if anyone else uses it as I am wondering if it's worth the price tag. It seems reasonable but I'd still like to do some research, LOL! smiley

I've been meaning to give it a go since it came out for Android. Curious about everyone's thoughts.

I actually looked at it the other day, but I've been having problems with photos saving to my phone; until I get that fixed I probably won't get it, but I'd love to hear how it goes for you!

I've had the PL app for iPhone for a quite some time now. The app is fast, intuitive, built with some cool features like quick photo editing, wrap around text when you type using the journal cards and some cool handwritten style fonts. The page sizes are 4x6, 6x8, 8x8 and 12x12 respectively. You can create square or rounded corners at the push of a button.

The app auto saves your content so you never lose anything. When you're completely done you can upload direct from the app to their printing service. The app comes standard with some of the older project life kits. Additional kits can be purchased right within the app for $.99 up to $1.99.

There is a lot of technical wizardry that makes the process so easy a two year old can complete a layout. Having said that, I don't reach for the app when I think of making pages because I already have an established workflow of editing photos on my computer. I also like the maximum control I get when using photoshop.

So while I love the app and the concept is brilliant I would need to change my workflow habits if I wanted to use the app as a replacement. Thus, I seldom use it. I don't feel too bad though because the price point is so low it's not a big deal.

Here's a tip though: If you want to use a digital kit from the app you can create a layout sized to 12x12. Fill in all the pockets with the 3x4 and 4x6 cards you want to use. Then export the completed page by emailing it to yourself. Open the .jpg file on your computer. Then use the marquee tool in photoshop to cut out each card and save onto your computer. Or cut it out and use the move tool to pull it onto a project you are working on.

This method will allow you to use the pocket cards from the app on your computer.

Thanks for the tip, Rachel!

@Emily, I hope you get that fixed soon. I downloaded the app earlier this week. There are at least 4 free kits and the others are between 0.99 to 1.99. Which is so reasonable. I'm still playing with it but it's so fun to use. smiley

@Rachel, I thought that you still had to buy the card kits in the app, just like you have to buy them on the website. Is there a range of cards included for free in the app?

Edit - whoops somehow I managed to miss J.Ajabad's comment regarding four included kits... and I don't know to to delete a post, sorry!

I've been using the app for awhile now too and love it. I'm really behind in my yearly book projects so this has helped me catch up, even though I had to give up some control that I was used to having in photoshop. I figured it was more important to me to catch up and get our pictures printed than to have everything be spot on perfect. I haven't printed yet, but so far I love it!

I've been uploading my photos to dropbox so I can use the photos taken with our other cameras. and i save the finished pages there also. I plan to use them in a bound photobook once I finish all the pages.

@Jen do you have the app for IOS or Android? On the android I am still waiting for the ability to print on them out but I'll probably print them out on my own individually and put them into page protectors. smiley

I've been on the fence with it too. Reads like those who have tried it like it. May need to give it a go!

Rachel that is a great tip about going from the app to photoshop on the pc. I have seen lots of blogs talking about going the other direction. Thanks.
