felt look

Will someone point me to a great tut on how to get the felt look. Thank you;)

Here are a couple. I haven't tried them so I don't know how good the results will be.

Or

Felt Background in PSE v4

1. Go to http://mayang.com/textures/Fabric/ht...res/index.html
Find the ‘felt-like material’ texture and download it (in the 10th row from top).
2. Make the texture a seamless tile
and save as a .psd file (I have a folder I call textures that I save all my textures into.)
3. Open up a new document (I am doing a 12 x 12 at 200 ppi so my settings will be different from yours if you are doing a smaller image).
4. Flood the background with a color or gradient of your choice.
5. Go to Filter, Texture,Texturizer. Load your texture from the flyout menu. I used a scaling of 144% and Relief of 26 with light from Top.
6. To add more realism, add some noise – Filter, Noise, Add noise I used 25%, Uniform, Monochromatic.
7. Then I go back to Filter, Stylize, Wind I used Stagger, From the Right. I add that a couple to three times, depends on what I am going for.
8. Play with your settings at anytime during this process. You can also stop at any point in this process – I think after step 5, it looks pretty good!

Hope this helps!

I don't know if you use photoshop or not but here are some great freebie felt styles in a TON of different colors.

I found this one .... it uses work paths ... did have a link for an effect but it doesn't work ... tutorial is there though

This next one I played with a bit and the 6x6 sample turned out like a piece of old vintage felt ... I had to play wit the last filter to get it

I was going to suggest the Scrapping Cop texture styles as well. Why re-invent the wheel. If you need a different colour, you can take one of the pre-existing colours, knock it back to greyscale and then re-colour.

@Elise: Thanks for sharing your advice! wanted to let you know that your shared link in #1 isn't working for us. smiley
If you get a chance can you try to update it, please? smiley

@Susan: I love Flergs suggestion/tutorial but I too couldn't get the link to work.

Anyone else on here might know if she's selling somewhere else or where we might find her newest and updated info on felt making?

This particular page is extremely slow to load- I have cable and had to hit refresh several times.

Copied from the site:

Here is how I created a felt mushroom in PSE 5. I used it in the layout at the bottom.

Some Preparation is needed:

1.Select a clip art shape that you want to turn into felt. I found one in the shapes drop down menu in PSE. You could also get one off the internet (that’s what I used for my mushroom).

2.If the clip art isn’t solid color, in PSE choose EDIT – FILL LAYER and fill with a solid color like black.

3.Now delete the background (use the magic wand, then SELECT-INVERSE and delete. You should be left with a transparent background.

4.To clean up the edges you can simplify your image and then use the EDIT- STROKE/OUTLINE tool to give it better form.

Now we’re ready to create felt.

1.You’ll need 2 colors for your image. A darker shade and a coordinating slightly lighter shade. For the mushroom I chose dark green and a medium green. You’ll have to play around with your choices. Use your color selector to choose these for your fore and back grounds.

2.Now we’ll add a couple filters and we should have something that looks a lot like felt.
3.In the Artwork and Effects Palette, chose Filters.

4.Go to Artistic Effects – Film Grain. Adjust the grain to the highest level.

5. Now under Filter, go to Render – Fiber. Here is where your color selections will make a big difference. Adjust the Variance, Strength, and the Randomize. If you don’t like the effect, undo the filter, and then change your color selection and apply the filter again.

6.Continue to work with the image until you’ve got all the detail you want. I personally like to add a beveled edge for more depth. You could add more layers, stitching, and drop shadows. I printed it and cut it out.

@Elise: TYSVM for taking the time to share that for us!!! smiley You're awesome smiley

Thanks for all the links and tips, I like the felt look as well and wanted to know how its done.

Thank you very much all of you. I am headed out to look at the links. Thanks for taking time to help me out;)

I picked this one up. Thanks again.

Thank you for this I am going to try it. I also downloaded the Scrappin' Cop styles. This is very nice, thanks again;)
