ISO: vintage stuffs

Soooo. I very much don't need to be downloading MORE right now before I've even started to organize what I have. But. I'd love to find some kits that are more vintagy feeling. I'm thinking of Halloween specifically right now of course. There are tons of cute Halloween kits, but I don't really see anything with a more vintage feel to it.

Also, going out on a limb here - I don't see anything Pagan like. Plenty of Halloween & Christmas, nothing Samhain & Yule. My google skills are failing me.

I don't have any recommendations of vintage Halloween kits for you, Neona, but if you are looking for vintage stuff in general you might want to take a look through two of the past DigitalScrapbook.com blog trains (not everyone may still be offering their parts, but I am and others probably are, too, plus I think all the DigitalScrapbook.com designers still offer their parts here through the site).

Vintage themed blog train: https://www.digitalscrapbook.com/forums/digital-scrapbooking/pixel-scrapper-blog-trains/nov-2013-blog-train-sign-up-list.
Here's a direct link to my part, which is still available.

Also wondering if you are familiar with the Graphics Fairy site? Tons of great vintage images there - if you are wanting to not download any more kits right now, it can be fun to search on Graphics Fairy for specific images to add to a layout to give it a vintage feel. Here's all the offerings tagged with Halloween.

Violet, thank you so much for those links! I'm just fooling myself when I say I'm not going to download anymore smiley

Whoa! Even with some of the ones no longer available that train was HUGE!! And it led me to 9 other trains & blogs to explore! Violet, I have to tell you, your vintage contribution was one of my favorites. And I love the way you blog about it. Thank you smiley

Neona: It´s really, really hard to find digiscrap kits with pagan themes. Good luck with that. The digiscrap community is full of Christian designers, that even have their own blog trains. Not only neo-pagan stuff are extremely hard to find, but also things related to non-christian religions, like buddhism, jewish stuff, etc, are also very hard to find. You can "bite the borders" as people from my mother´s home town use to say: Use celtic heirtage or St. Patrick´s day kits for druidcraft things, halloween or mexican fiesta kits for Samhain pages, pick the colors you want on non-themed kits or kits with totally different themes and so on.

Neona, so glad the links/ideas were helpful, and thank you so much for the praise! It's always so delightful to me when other people enjoy what I make.

Lorien, it's really interesting hearing about your process as a scrapper keeping an eye out for non-Christian, religious themed kits. I wonder if we could have a pagan themed blog train here sometime? Or maybe it would turn out really cheesy and appropriative, since it wouldn't be the actual religion for many of the people designing. Yeah, on second thought, that's not a great idea. It definitely squicks me when people appropriate Buddhist symbology and turn "Zen" into the equivalent of "spa." (I wasn't raised Buddhist but have spent the last 15 years very involved with the Western Vipassana community.)

I suppose it's sorta good to know that what I thought I *hadn't* seen truly wasn't out there LOL if that made sense? I admit to "biting the borders" (love that phrase, never heard it before) on many an occasion. The way I see it, that's where a lot of the (not strictly) Christian images came from, like Santa & the Easter bunny. So sometimes it works smiley

That said, I belong to an "inclusive" discussion group at work which has really opened my eyes. I had never before thought of the misappropriation of Zen and other such things until recently and am trying to become more sensitive to it.

All this brings me to realizing that I might one day want to actually be a designer to fill the gap. Something I hadn't been remotely interested in until I couldn't find what I wanted!

I´m not the person to say that someone that is not insider can´t do a good job on a kit. I´m working very hard to make kits that work for the northen hemispheres, even being a southern-hemisphererer. Time will tell if the fall kit I´m finishing, for example, will be useful or not for the northern-hemisphereres, since if had to make a kit about my fall it would be sad, gray, full of pollution and with no pumpkings. Even to my love songs kit I had to research a little bit - for me, it´s a fun process and I always learn something new, but I don´t know if people would be comfortable to research other´s beliefs... And I´m not sure if there are too many pagans on digiscrap... I saw a wiccan tagger designer once, a long time ago, and, on digiscrap communities I can remember very few people that said that are non-christian religions - I don´t know if there indeed are just a few, or if they simply didn´t have the opportunity to talk about it (maybe fearing judgement by the Christian fellows?)

PS: did you know that the yin-yang symbol actually has a name? According to the thaoist, it´s called Tai-ji, or something like that...

Oh, I wonder where the term yin yang came from. That's something I should learn about since what I think I understand about it resonates with me. I love learning about other cultures.

There can definitely be a fear of judgement, especially as we get older and have more to lose.

Yin and yang are the names of the energies represented in the symbol. Yin is the "black" part and yang is the "white" part. But calling the symbol "Yin-Yang" is the same that call a pentacle "five elements" or a cross "death" - I just included this note because of Violet comment on "people [who] appropriate Buddhist symbology and turn "Zen" into the equivalent of "spa." " - I feel the same always when I see the symbol called Yin-Yang, since I studied some thaoism/daoism....

Oh, cool! That you for the info smiley

Nearly all of my bundles have a vintage flair. I'm not sure if any of the designs from my 'Chills and Thrills' bundle could be what you're looking for. I'll link the whole shebang...and you can figure out from there if specific kits would work or not. Before too long, I'm hoping to get the templates uploaded as well...and then individual elements will be available.

Here is the bundle.

I was going to suggest Janet's kits as well, she uses a lot of unique vintage elements.

I've also been really impressed with Jessica's kits here.

They all have a Victorian/antique vibe to them.

Already 2 of my favorites smiley Thanks for the suggestions!

as far as pagan kits, try Miki Ferkul at Scrapbookgraphics. She does quite a lot of Pagan kits.

As for other cultures, ViVa Artistry does Hanukkah kits as well as Asian styled themes and other various cultures:
