Opinions on terms and conditions when setting up business required please

Hi!

Me again! I need your help please...again. I'm wanting to set up my own etsy shop selling my digital designs. However, I'm stuck at the writing of the terms and conditions stage. All the policies for personal and computer use are mind boggling! I can design, but I'm hopeless with words.

I've done my research and looked at present sellers to see what they have. Some go into so much depth about specifics that you can or cannot use their designs for. I've tried googling for a template to no avail.

I don't want to "steal" somebody elses terms but no matter how much I try, I end up with either a pile of gobbledegook, or something far too similar to the person I'm trying to paraphrase.

Does anyone have a template of terms and conditions, policies, licenses etc that I could copy please?

I know I'm being cheeky but my brain is now frazzled!!!!

Thank you

Donna

P.S If this is in the wrong section then could a moderator please move it to the appropriate one? I wasn't sure where to post it. Thanks

Donna, You have put it in the correct forum. Hopefully some of the other designers here can give you an idea on what they did in writing their TOU's.

I am only a scrapper but I totally know what you mean about the long non-fathomable type TOU's out there. I was scared to post anything I scrapped online the first 6 months I got into digital. smiley

Donna, I know exactly what you mean about finding the right words for your TOU! Here is a link to mine (PU), which you are welcome to copy word for word if it says what you want to - I'm happy for you to copy the formatting of it as well. Download it from Dropbox to check it out.

Oh, by the way, if you will be selling CU items, do consider clearly stating whether or not you allow freebies to be made from them. (Some of us have been discussing this recently!)

Good luck!

Shawna...I'm glad its not just me! I have written so many drafts but am concerned I shall miss something out or get something wrong. People state so many things they can and cannot be used for. Some I haven't even heard of! I have packs of paper ready to upload but am worried about doing it because firstly I can't fathom out this part, and secondly because I'm terrified they are rubbish!

Robyn...Thank you, that is very kind of you. I shall most certainly take a look. That will take care of the PU side of it. Just need to sort out the CU side too. Recently I saw some more abbreviations which baffled me even further. I can't find it now. It had extra letters after the CU. Argh I have the memory of a fish. lol Thank you once again. smiley

I honestly just wrote my own, even with the same feelings that you have.

You don't want to base your business and terms off of someone elses, because all designers are different and feel differently about their work. For example, some people like to itemize every single thing you can or cannot do, me personally, I detest that. I started with a simple bullet system in a text file and just jotted down things that really mattered to me! You should think about how you want people to see your business, and what terms you are really concerned about individuals abiding.

It doesn't have to be fancy! Just clear and simple. A numbered list is a great way to get started, and then add to and alter as you develop your business.

That makes perfect sense. I do tend to think too deeply about things. My hubby says its my way of procrastinating the whole uploading and selling part. He probably has a point. lol

I don't want people to look at my terms and think "Blimey she goes on a bit!" so maybe I should go down your lines and not list everything. Quite simply I don't want anyone to pass my designs off as their own or to pass them on to others for nothing. That's pretty much my main thoughts.

Thank you for clearing my head on this one. smiley
