Question about alphas

Hello Everyone smiley

A short time ago I asked about the correct sizing of certain elements and I was directed to a link which listed the sizes the different types of elements should be. It lists alphas as being 1 inch or 300 pix which seems to be too small to me. But if that's the standard, that's what I'll go with. My question regards upper and lower case. Would it be ok to make the upper case letters and numbers a little bigger, say 450 pix or leave them at 300 also?

Thanks!

Em

You can make them the size you think they should be. Your the designer and its your choice. I generally make my stuff a little bigger - usually 1.25x to 1.5x the size I want the element to be on the page.

Emerald, I just took a design mentor class and they suggest the alpha be 150-250 px or 1-2 in in height.

I generally also go for about 2 inches, although every once in a while I feel like an alpha might be nice to be a little bigger. Usually something more neutral.

I made one with 1 inch, and I thought it came out small. I called him, exactly, "small alpha" due to that. It is good to make word arts, or longer titles, but I´d love if it was biger. Couldn´t make this one bigger, however smiley

I just checked one of my alphas and it is 2". I definitely wouldn't go any smaller than 1" and, depending on the font, I would go as large as 3" (like for a flat alpha like a sticker). For me, bigger is better, since you can always make it smaller, but it doesn't always works so good going the opposite direction. smiley

Thank you for all the input, Ladies. I've been playing around with different fonts and found that some are naturally smaller or bigger. Will take me a while to finish these two steps of the challenge, but I will.

I will say though that I thoroughly enjoyed this month. It has proven to be quite challenging to me. smiley

The main reason I started shrinking my alphas was just to conserve space. Large letters can make for a VERY large file download.

Hum, I've only ever made one alpha and I used Marisa's template for that, so I never gave it a second thought... Thanks for the resource links, they will be super helpful next time I make an alpha!

I'm a 2 inch or bigger girl! I like my alpha's big...it is easier to make them smaller but not always true to upsize.
