Stitching Around Pocket Pages. Help!!

Hello, I'm in a designing slump. I made a pocket page last night using a template and a little more than halfway through it, I changed my mind. I realized I wanted different size squares and I wanted stitching to wrap around each one. Of course, now I'm just lost. See what happens when you don't scrapbook enough! smiley

1. Do I download (single) stitching and place it individually around each square?
2. Is there a pre-made overlays someplace?
3. Is there a way to make them DIY, that's not complicated?

Thanks!

I've made some clear pockets with stitches, you can find them in the commons, here. smiley (If the link doesn't work with my applied filters, you can go to the "commons" tab at the top and search "clear pocket" there, they should come up.)

If those aren't the size or idea you have in mind there's a couple different things you can do smiley

1. Download a string of stitches like this one by Marisa and place it around your pocket
2. If you use Photoshop, you can change your brush settings to make dashes rather than a solid straight line when you click and drag around.
3. You can download a style effect like this one by Sheila which makes life pretty easy

-or-

4. If the holes in your pockets are oddly aligned, shaped or spaced, you could place one single stitch at a time adjusting and rotating as you go.

Thank you for the question and the answer as this is something I'd never even have known how to ask properly. Now I have an idea of how to accomplish one of the drawings in my page planner. Thank you both so much!

Glad to be of help, Karen! And anytime you have a question, even if you don't know how to ask it, try!! We're usually pretty good at figuring things out between all of us and we're always happy to help! Hey, sometimes even those of us with experience learn new ways of doing things which is never a bad thing! smiley

We're certainly an eclectic bunch, there's bound to be someone who knows exactly what you mean when you say "the doodad at the top that looks like a party hat disappeared from my thingamajig and I don't know how to get it back", I've even seen some stranger than that get solved pretty quickly smiley

Thank you so much Kayl! Honestly, I am AMAZED daily at this community! The way that people reach out to help and include even newcomers like myself is just so inspiring. The creative world is generally not very welcoming and knowledge tends to be hoarded, but here? I mean, this is the standard that every other online community should strive to emulate! I am so glad to have found this site and I'm just so very thankful for the help, the guidance and the encouragement that I see around every page. And just so you know - I really adore your design work!

Kayl, I think your clear pockets is exactly what I had in mind. I did download some straight stitches earlier, just in case. I didn't even think about adjusting a brush in photoshop, maybe I'll try that too.

Thank you!!

It's funny how all our names begin with the letter "K".

I agree, this site is amazing! You can find some great items on a points system, ask plenty of questions and how to's and talk to a bunch of awesome crafters. What's really nice, is that its not limited to just crafting either. I feel like it's more of a "family" than just "another website".

I hadn't even noticed the "K" names, Katherine! I'm just so pleased that I found this site. I keep thinking I have a question to ask, then I go search the forum and find the answer already. The willingness to share knowledge.. I just can't get over it.

Ha! I hadn't noticed our K names either despite reading your names when I replied to your comments smiley

This community really is more of a family than a competitive creative zone which truly is what makes it special smiley Not to mention there's a little bit of something for everyone around here, especially if you dive into the forums!

I started out here a couple years ago just hoarding supplies but quickly fell in love with the support and encouragement, too smiley A few months after joining I started to participate in blog trains and designer challenges, the rest is history! I'm by no means a pro, I've still got soo much to learn technically and even about my own process and style but it's been a really fun process with the people on this site always being so helpful and offering tips and advice!

I just typed my reply, submitted and noticed there was a glitch with the internet. Grr! So let's see if I can remember it all...

I think your designs are awesome! Today, I strolled upon the November blog train and saw your kit. I was wondering if the there are links still available for this or if I'm too late? I really love the purples, blues and "doodle" hearts.

I could see myself wanting to contribute to blog trains someday (I'm still in the hoarding phase-lol), I'm nowhere near where I want to be digitally. I barely have time to finish my scrapbooks, let alone create anything original with a toddler running around (preschool begins in the Fall, yes!!!).

Haha I will soon know the time-sucking nature of a child as I am due any day now with our first smiley

The Elegant Autumn Mini Kit is available from my designs in the Commons or as pieces which you can see under the kit itself. smiley

Congratulations!! They say "sleep when baby sleeps" and it's so true. I wish I would've, at least the first morning nap and a quick nap in the early evening. I sat there, watched him sleep, took photos and watched tv. 30 mins into his nap, I was kicking myself for still sitting there. Later on, I learned that if I could apply 15 mins to something at a time, I could get it done, even if it took all day.

Thanks, I guess I should've looked into it more. But I'm glad it's still available. smiley (update- it's saved for downloads tomorrow!!)

I'm very much in the hoarding phase, too and I'm so completely new to digital scrapbooking that I'm still in the wide-eyed, "oh my gosh, you can DO that?" stage. I'm learning so much and hopefully, one day, my skills will advance enough to allow me to contribute back to this community.

I started "digital scrapbooking" around 2004, when I would use cheap photo editing software and basically make copies of the page and erase everything to create "layers". I made a birthday invitation with it, that my mother-in-law still has hung up in her office. I didn't get Photoshop Elements until 2009 and I'm still learning new tricks!

I'm not much of a sleeper as it is, unfortunately. smiley Though here in Sweden my husband gets a required (and paid!) 90 days paternity leave (up to a year or so if he wants or needs to) so I will have lots of help. And of course his family and friends are around to help if we need them since my family is all back in America smiley A co-worker of his is due any day now as well so we'll have each other, we're both having Boys who coincidentally both ended up having Al- names oddly enough.

I use CS6 so I'm unfamiliar with Elements and probably can't offer much help but if you've ever got questions for your specific program, head over to "Software Specific Questions" for help smiley Lots of people here use Elements!!

Just play and have fun with random pieces and you'll be sharing in no time I'm sure!! smiley It's a bit addictive smiley

You can also use Paths to stroke a shape with a particular brush. Here's a tutorial on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iQxaE3In3A

Marisa, I've created brushes before and honestly, that was the furthest thing from my mind. My brain likes to make things extra complicated sometimes. Thanks!! I need a notebook for tutorials, I really do! Same thing for Brooke's tutorial on using your own sketches. Long ago, I was going to hand draw some elements to add to my page, but soon the idea just seemed to drift away.

Kayl, if I keep scrapping and stop getting distracted with Pinterest, then maybe I'll finish one. smiley I've crafted some things in the past, but nothing worth bragging about.

My first creations and BT contributions were nothing to write home about smiley As long as it's fun and you enjoy what you're doing and making, nothin should stop you smiley

Hmm, maybe I'll add that to an upcoming date or at least to really consider it in the next 6 months. Are they looking for more submissions?

Blog Trains are open to any and all who want to participate smiley Newcomers are always welcome! Violet made a great post for beginners here and of course the rules are posted here. Violet's post is quite long but truly a great read, I found it very helpful when it was shown to me!!

We're currently discussing themes and palette ideas in this thread for upcoming trains smiley You don't have to participate in the train to provide thoughts and ideas though so feel free to throw out anything you'd like to see or maybe participate in smiley

Also, consider peeking into the Designer Challenges forum smiley

Some have due dates as you'll see, others, specifically on this list, do not so you can always add your contributions to them, no deadline to stress about!

There's also the CU blogtrains located there where you typically only make 1-3 graphics of whatever kind based on a specific theme and color palette.

Start wherever and whenever you'd like! smiley There are certainly plenty of options for everyone whether you want to jump right in or just dip a toe!
