Which type of paper for printing?

I was wondering what the best kind of paper is for printing out scrapbook pages? Cardstock is too heavy, and regular printer paper is too thin. What do you use?

Thanks!

My Canon printer prints cardstock just fine. It is just as heavy as high quality photo paper. As to what kind of paper depends upon what I am printing and what size I want to print. I use cardstock to print backgrounds and elements. Use a Brother ScanNCut to cut the elements. Gives it a nice look.

I use photo paper to print pictures. If I am doing a nice 8 X 11 layout with pictures I usually print on photo paper.

I haven't printed my own in a while... but, I used to use this Epson matte paper because I had an Epson printer with Epson original inks (no cheap refills) because they purport that the prints will last 120+ years. So that was my reasoning. I also don't like the glossy because of the risk for fingerprints and since they end up in a page protector, that gave them the shiny look. smiley

Thank you very much, Shawna! I've put that on my Amazon wishlist.

Thank you, Judy! I appreciate your information.

Shawna, I've always loved a matte finish for the same reason - fingerprints! I always ordered prints with a matte finish when I shot with a film camera.

@Inez: You are most welcome! smiley

@ Debra: I did the same... when I took (or monitored, it was cheaper) a college photography class way back when we used to do slides and then there was only one place left in Nashville, TN at the time... I would always have them print mine matte... They used to charge more for it. smiley Now, you probably could send a slide to get printed anywhere to save your life. That's why about 5-6 years back I bought a scanner so I could print any of mine at a later date... because when I took those classes I didn't print them all (too expensive). smiley but now I could scan and send to be printed digitally for about 10 cents ea - $2 depending on where, size, etc Gotta love technology SOME of the time! smiley

Hey Shawna.... it's still possible, according to this search...

For printing layouts at home, I actually prefer a slightly heavier-weight (48lb.) glossy brochure paper. It's similar to what you find in an art book or higher-end magazine. Here's an Amazon link for 8.5x11: https://www.amazon.com/HP-Brochure-Glossy-Brightness-Q1987A/dp/B0000BW6V6 I use the 11x17 to print 4 layouts per sheet and then bind my own custom books for the occasions.

Oh wow Holly!!! Thanks for sharing... It's been so long, I just quit even thinking to look to see if labs were returning to it. It makes sense though... because so many old things are new again... I mean just look at the return of the mid-century mod style sweeping the nation trend (although I've always loved it and never left, there's a huge bandwagon everyone's jumping on now) or the 70's, 80's and 90's modern twists in recent years. smiley Well-Well-Well, I may just pull my old camera out and grab a roll or two of slide film and go have some fun. smiley

Wow, great info in here, thank you to those that answered, I am glad I found this thread.
