I am trying to create a custom shape from a text layer and I'm having difficulties because the define custom shape option is grayed out. What I did is I typed my letter that I wanted. I then rasterized the type so now its just a shape. Then I trimmed my canvas and went to define custom shape and its gray. So what am I doing wrong? I am trying to create a set of Alpha's that are custom shapes.

Karry ... are you using the letter as a mask to use with the text layer? .... if so you can type your letter, simplify it, click on the text layer and click in the thumb of the letter layer while holding CTRL to select it, inverse the selection and hit backspace ... it will give you your letter on the text layer .... that's how I've been doing it in Elements ... if you want to create more than one letter don't forget to copy the text layer so you have another to work with
