Cutting image to frame

Hello there lovely scrappers of PixelScrapper,
I had a (somewhat silly) question about frames. I use Photoshop CS6. When I have a frame, how do I cut the image down to the size and shape of that particular frame? I tried to select the frame, go back to the image layer and cut but it just leaves it white.. Also I cannot remove it by using the Eraser Tool.. Any suggestions? I'm stuck on this smiley And sorry if my English is bad, I am not a native speaker. smiley

Create a mask. Place the frame on top of the image to display the part of the image you want to show. Select the layer of the picture. Select the area to be displayed, than create a mask. If you decide later that you wanted a different area you can go back and delete the mask and create a new one. This will display only the area you wanted to display or selected.

Judy .... I'd add "select the area to be displayed from the frame layer by clicking in the display area and holding down the CTRL key" For those who don't know how to create a mask simply go to select and inverse your selection and backspace which will give you what you need....I hope I'm not stepping on your toes Judy ... I NEVER want to do that smiley

Amy .... I think you are getting a white background because you are using your first layer .... create a second image layer above the first and that will give you the transparent background you are looking for ... at least that 's the way it is in PSE. Creating a second image is always a good idea anyway so you have that whole image to return to at any given time.

Thank you so much Judy and Susan! Very helpful information! Love from The Netherlands smiley

Susan Love how you help, please don't stop.

Until PSE 10 you couldn't create masks in Elements so I had to create a way of doing it myself, thus selection the piece I wanted and deleting the border to create my own mask .... if I wanted a black mask I simply added another layer above and selected it and cutting it the same as I did above ... I still have to remind myself that I can now create masks in PSE 11.

Sometimes the old ways can be the best, but not forgotten when the new ones do not work.
