Full Size vs. Tagger Size Issues

I usually work & design with tagger sized stuff...because a lot of the circles I'm in are geared towards tagger-sized items.

I am trying to branch out to include full-sized products but am finding the size difference is making things that I create a thousand times more difficult.

I love to work with brushes...and when considering the size differences, it makes a huge difference in the outcome.

I'm wondering is there a way to get the look I want into a full sized image? I'm sure there is, but I haven't discovered it yet.

Also I find that PS distorts the image when I'm zoomed out so I can see the whole image. In PSP, there is no distortion but I can't use my brushes in PSP (if I load more than a couple sets, the entire program freezes).

Maybe if I wasn't so darn particular? lol

If I am understanding you problem correctly, then the issue is probably with the brushes themselves. In PS the default size you see for each brush (the number under the thumbnail pic) is the recommended maximum size those brushes should be used at. So, for instance, if you use a brush with a size of 50px on a project that would require the brush to be at a 500px size then there will be distortion in the brush. There really is no easy fix to this with already made brushes. Your best bet would be to either download new brushes at higher resolutions (2500px, or there about), or create your own brushes at that large size.

Are the brushes you are using standard style brushes, as in round, square, etc.?
Or are the brushes you are using "picture" style brushes, such as watercolour blotches?

If you send me one of the brush files you are trying to use I can see what I can do about resetting the scale for you. smiley
No promises though, it will all depend on what you are actually using, including the sizes needed. smiley

I generally use brushes that are grungy, faded, or something like that. I think my main issue is that the brushes aren't big enough no matter how big I put them lol. It's easy to get the right look for me for a larger brush onto an 800 x 800 px canvas as opposed to the 3600 px canvas lol. It's just too bad the brushes can't be as big as 4000 or they'd be perfect hahahaha.

Rachel .... I'd go looking for new brushes that were made in a higher format ... you can usually tell because the zip file will be more than a MB in size unless it's has a great number of brushes then I'd look for a set that is even larger .... if you have had these brushes for a few years then the chances are they are smaller ones .... I had to go through mine and sort them not too long ago. Deviant Art has all sorts of great and free brushes that are higher resolution

Well I just returned to the digital world last year or so...so the brushes I have are fairly new to me. My favorites are sadly not that large (Chris Wahl's brushes). I think I go through my brushes at least once a month to weed out ones that I'd downloaded that I either don't like or really don't use much. So I'm constantly looking for new CU brushes.

I think it's just one of those things that I need to look for till I find the right ones.

It may be obvious (or not) but the first thing to consider is: If you want something in both full and tagger sizes you need to start it full size. Because when you resize anything to be bigger it loses quality.

Yeah that's obvious. I just have trouble finding the ones I like in the larger size is all. You should hear me when I check the sizes of brushes and find they are not nearly as large as I need them (2000 & up)...I start swearing like crazy! lol

Maximum brush size depends on the version of Photoshop you're using--up to CS5 it was 2500px. CS6 upped that to 3000, and the subscription-model Adobe CC versions can have brushes up to 5000 pixels on a side now. (Of course, finding brushes that are that big isn't always easy, but it can be done, at least.)

That's actually the biggest reason I'm tempted to upgrade to CC 2014.

That said, I need to go through my collection and get rid of most of the small brushes that I don't foresee myself even being able to use for scatters. That'll be a project and a half. :p
