Great Font Site

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I just discovered a new website for helping you choose a font. You all probably have known this site for years but I think it's genius. It's called Wordmark. It, and it's all online. You just type the word or phrase that you want and it will display that word or phrase in every font on your computer. This way no more hunting and pecking until you find the right font for your project!
Hmmm... amazing, and will be a lot of help for me!
Just thought I'd share in case there were others out there who had never heard of this site!
Krissy

I am such a font hoarder to the point that I'd probably break that website. LOL I have over 10,000 fonts. smiley I usually just start scrolling after the last font used until I find one that catches my eye.

I know! I got a new computer and am STILL installing all of my lost fonts I had along the way! One can never have enough fonts!

Fonts are one thing I can't get enough of; I keep accumulating them. smiley The site did work for me, and it's a really neat idea, one similar to what I used to do in MS Word: Write some text, highlight it, change the font size to 72, then scroll through the font list. The site's advantage is that you can see different fonts directly next to each other without doing any extra work.

Another thing we have in common, Vidia - I am a complete fontaholic. I try to curb it, but I just haven't been able to... LOL

LOL I stopped trying to stop downloading fonts a long time ago. It's a total addiction. Although, I really should go through and delete some. There are certain types I never use, and will never use; I don't know why I downloaded them in the first place. The majority are freeware, but I did buy several script and Celtic fonts (love them both!), along with all the pay-for fonts used in the Harry Potter books, which is another thing I'm addicted to.

Wow That's pretty cool Krissy! Can't believe I'd never seen it before.

You might find this thread interesting, although you may already know about these...It was a cool thread we had about fonts, wordart, etc

Shawna- that's a great thread, wish I would've seen it before I posted here! Thank you- I couldn't believe I had never seen it either. For the way I scrap, previewing the fonts will be very helpful!

Vidia & Lizanne- Since I got a new computer I'm trying to stop installing EVERY font in the world, but as I continue I keep thinking... What's ONE more gonna hurt!

Krissy: Do you know you DON'T have to install them with the new windows versions I think XP and on...

What you do is... Leave them in a folder IE "SB Fonts"

While in PS, go to your windows pane find said folder... Double click on the font you want to use. It will open a small preview pane. Leave that open while working on your layout Text Box and the font will be on your layout. No installing necessary.

I sent a email to the creator of this web program to find out if there's a way to select the folder it views because I'm sure right now it's only using the standard system FONT folder. Because it only showed me about 40 which is what I have installed. I let you know if I get a response. smiley

The awesome thing about this program would be if it could do that you would even be able to never have to install them. Too many fonts installed can slow your entire program down.

Shawna- I didn't know that!!
I will definitely try doing it your way... and yes, please let me know if you receive a response from that website!
Thank you so much smiley

Yes, too many fonts does slow down not only a program (PS, PSP, MS Word, etc.), but also your computer. Well, depending upon how fast (or slow) your processor is, of course. lol The only problem I really have is when I click to change fonts in PSP (after I click the text tool) and Word. It just takes a few seconds longer to load. It doesn't cause problems with boot-up or anything else.

cool site:)

Thanks Krissy for the site information. I am going to go there and check it out. I also love fonts, and am always looking for the perfect one... I like that you said it will show you the different fonts with what you want to write... that is awesome. Thanks again.

Thanks Kim- I hope you like it, I use it all the time now!

Opening a font and having it available in our program was a feature available with Windows XP but since Windows 7, that was removed, which means you would need to use a font viewer to access them.

Also, installing all those fonts might be ok for your graphic program, but you might not want or need all those fonts when you use a text program, like Words!

I have a little article on font viewers (yes it is mentioning PSP though), and it will allow you to get as many fonts as you want, but without installing them, yet having them available if needed.

Oh great Carole- I'll go have look at that article now smiley

great post

Thanks, Krissy, I love it! This is going to be so super helpful.

O.K...my mind is at peace now that its confirmed that I'm not the only font freak smiley out there!!!...I used to think something must be wrong with me for installing every cute, adorable, girley, decorative,...etc, etc, font I could find!!!....but after reading everyone's post in this thread, I laughed and hugged myself for having found fellow fonties!
@Krissy: I just visited that amazing site you'd mentioned... smiley smiley ...now I don't have to scroll up & down, checking to see which font looks best for whichever word...but its a pity we can't copy paste...it'll save so much trouble...don't you all think so?
Anyway, thanks to all of you and Krissy especially!
