hi ok i need help with help in ps 14 i can use styles but i need to know if there is a tut out there that will tell me how u can take an item and just put a style or glitter on just a part of the item instead of the whole thing i dont know a lot bout it yet i use psp 10 mainly but i love using styles in ps if anyone can help thank u so much.
A layer style will always be applied to the entire layer I believe. So if you don't want to style added to part of the layer you'll need to delete it somehow, or move it to another layer.
I have two ways of doing this and it usually works well but not always depending on what the look is you are looking for ....
First way
top layer ...transparent layer with a lower transparency so you can see the image just a bit
bottom layer ...your image layer
Using your paint brush on the first layer paint in what you want to cover .... using a tablet makes this easier, especially if you want fine lines .... then click on the style you want on that top layer then play with the transparency so that you can see the image underneath but still see the style on top. Merge layers
This is how I get movement into my digital pieces, hair strands, stitching lines etc ... there's usually a way to do something in PSE but it can be a bit convoluted at times ... hope this helps
Second way
top layer .... image with style
bottom layer .... image
remove what you don't want to be styled and merge the images ....
When you are finished
Depending on the style/effect you use ....if it has a bevel/shadow/glow etc ..... this is how to get around that .... don't merge yet .... save your styled layer as a .png and open it .... you will be able to trim off the bit of glow/shadow/bevel you don't want and then slip it on top of your original image layer and merge with that image. You now have your image with your style way you want it.
hi thank u ms Susan and ms Marisa i saved the info
There's a PSE 14 now? I thought 13 was the most recent one!
In Photoshop you can apply a style to part of a layer by duplicating the layer, creating a layer mask of the area you want to create a style with. To see the style you need to make sure it is the layer above the original layer.
hi ty ms Judy
