PHOTOSHOP CS6: Save as a .png?

I just got a new computer (yay!) and bought CS6 (double yay!). BUT...I no longer see the option to save as a .png file! I have the standard CS: InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop--no Fireworks. Am I missing something obvious? If not, what is the best format for me to save my elements as to preserve the transparent background?

I have not had problems saving as PNG, so I opened a couple of different pictures in CS6 to see. I don't usually save as PNG, so I have never noticed any differences, but one picture would not let me save as PNG, but would save as PSD or TIFF. The other pictures did allow for saving PNG. I do not know why the difference.

Thanks, Judy...I also noticed that as I played around with things. I think it was something about the settings I created, because when I closed that file and opened a new one, I could select the .png option. Guess it's just one of those weird things...

Glad it worked out.

When you don´t see the png option on save as, check the color mode. It usually means that your image is on CMYK and not RGB.

Also, I had another problem with saving .pngs on CS6 when I first started using it a couple of weeks ago: on the window that opens up after you choose the file name and type, there is a new option: On CS4 there was only a pair of things to choose - none and interlaced; on cs6 you must also choose between no compression none/fast or smallest/slow. I realised that I have to choose smallest/slow or the files are too big - a single file has the same amout of .mb as a full elements set! So, my settings are smallest/slow and none. Hope I´m doing it right...

Thanks, Lorien! I didn't know what I had done wrong, but I must have been working in CMYK. Thanks for the tip on the compression, too--I've been using none/fast because I wanted my files to be print-quality, but they have been really big--I thought it was because I was using the 64-bit CS6, so this really helps.

I found this plug-in, it may help when saving PNG files:
SuperPNG is a free Adobe Photoshop plug-in for using PNG ("ping") files.
It has more comprehensive support for the format than Photoshop's included plug-in and provides control over alpha channel handling.

Sometimes you can't save as a png if the image has been indexed .... if something won't save check under image ... then mode and make sure it's set to RGB ... I have been caught by that a few times .... sometimes photoshop elements has actually saved in index mode for whatever reason and I've had to go back and resave too.

thank you for solve my isuue.

Thank you Angle, it looks like a nice plug-in to try.

I'm going to check out that plug in. I also didn't realize you couldn't save as .png if working in CMYK. Good to know.
