PSP8 - context menu missing

I still use my ancient PSP8 on occasion and have an odd issue that came up. I've googled and so far can't find any answers. I like to open the browser within the program and work with the images from there. All of a sudden when I right click on an image the little pop up context menu is missing. All I get is a little box that looks like two off-color squares.

It's not a big deal, but since it's gone I realize I use the right click a lot! I've tried the usual fixes short of reinstalling the program. It's been on this computer for about two years and aside from this little oddity, haven't had any issues other than old program stuff (mainly, outdated filters).

Thanks for any help.

Sorry, but I can't help. I started with PSP9 in 2005.

Wish I could help you, but like Vidia I started out with a later version than yours... Carole Cassel might be able to help you though - she posts on this board occasionally & has a lot of the older versions of PSP (through X7) installed on her computer.

Look through your menu and see if there are options as to what panels would be open. You may be able to click on an option.

Hi Lisa, could you clarify a bit? I am not sure what you are doing with the image.
"I like to open the browser within the program "; what browser are you referring to? The only one i know is available through Ctrl-B. Is that what you are looking for?
Were you able to get that command through a right-click?

Carole, unless I'm completely misreading Lisa, I think what she means by "browser" is File > Open.

Carole, I can open the browser within PSP8 and yes, it's the one through Ctrl-B. When that is open and I go to a folder, it brings up images in that folder. When I right click on those images, the quick menu (like delete, move, copy, rename, etc.) for the menu has disappeared. In the screen shot below, I used the PSP Sample Images folder to show you what I mean. I right clicked the truck and all I get is a blank pop up.

Like I said, no biggie if you're stumped, too. It's such a handy feature and I miss it lol.

Thanks for all you other ladies trying to help out. smiley

Lisa, have you tried resetting to default?

While holding the shift button double click the psp desktop icon to launch
you will be asked if you want to revert to default settings ..or words to that effect say yes and it should go back to when you first installed

Be aware that any changes or file locations or extra content you have added will be lost so you might want to save a workspace first, if you have done some customization to it.
Let me know if that works.

Hi Carole,

I spent yesterday designing, so i didn't back here till now. I tried your suggestion several times, but I never got asked anything! I tried resetting both the cache (which I do regularly) and the dialogue through the Preferences, then opening as suggested, and it did bring up the screen that you get when you first open it brand new (asked to register, etc.), but it left all my content okay (custom settings, etc.). Right click menu still missing.

Thanks so much for trying to help. I'm almost afraid to uninstall/reinstall it since it's so old! Something might have changed in those Windows Updates and won't take it no more!! lol

If you think of anything else, let me know and I'll try it.

Although Corel never supported that version of PSP (since it was then owned by Jasc), you might be able to post in the Corel user to user forum. Some members are still using older versions, or at least, have them on their computer. It could be worth another shot.

Good luck (and if you ever want to give X7 a try, let me know and i can also help you with that).

Cassel

Didn't think of that and I actually joined that forum a few years back when I had some file transfer issues. I'm heading over there now.

I may bite the bullet and buy a newer version. Aside from that one thing, it still works great, but I know the day will come ...

Thanks for your help, Carole, I appreciate it.

Lisa, since you can keep the PSP8 even if you install X7, it would be easy to go back to your familiar version if you are stuck on a task or if you want to go faster.

Right now, on the Corel site, i see they include $70 worth of additional bundles when you get PSPX7. One of those bundles is actually $50 worth of supplies from my own store! smiley (scripts and tubes)

I have both PSP8 and PSE12 on the work computer - that's a lot of hoggin' room even with computer being a big one lol. When PSP8 dies or no longer will load onto a new computer, I'll get a newer version. I ended up buying two PSE12's (one for work, one for home) because of the download/certificate issues, one OS, blah blah. I'm sitting on what I have for now as it all works for me at this point. Thanks for the heads up, though smiley

I DID go to the Corel site and someone was able to give me a fix!! In the Customize window, there's a tab with a Menu, then several reset options. I had to do a few so I don't know which one really took, but it worked.

Thanks so much for mentioning the Corel forum!! So happy I got my fix! lol

Lisa, I'm so glad that you were able to get your problem sorted. It's really frustrating when something works one day, and stops working the next day!

Thanks, Robyn! This had worked for years, and all of a sudden .. bam! lol I'm so glad Carole mentioned that forum, I'd forgotten all about it!
