How to Create Text on a Path, Photoshop

In this tutorial I'll use Photoshop to show you how to create text on a path two ways and also how to fill a shape with text.

First, I've open the shape I want to use in Photoshop. Next I will select the pen tool.

With the pen tool I will make dots along the path I want to create.

Once the path is made, with your text tool hover over the line you made with the pen tool. You'll notice the text cursor will change. Just click on the line and text will appear.

If you need to adjust the text to the left or right, or where the center is, use the Path Selection Tool. This will also let you move the text above and below the line. Once you have the Path Selection Tool selected, hover over the line and you'll see different arrows appear. The two arrows will move the center of the text. If you hover over the ends you'll get an arrow that will move the text one way or the other.

Using the Shape Tool, you can quickly make a text path. Just make sure you are making a path shape.

Now you can click on either the line, or inside the shape, with the text tool to type around the shape or inside the shape.

Fabulous, Marisa! Love this smiley smiley smiley

Thanks for the information, I'm sure it will come in hand as I do more scrapbooking. Question will this also work for PSE 2018-2021?

Awesome! thank you so much for the tutorials

this is awesome!

This is great - I was trying to remember how to do this the other day! Thank you.

awesome! Thank you for this smiley

Thank you, Marisa. I have been anxiously awaiting this and you did not disappoint me. smiley

@Cynthia: I'm not sure how it compares to PSE.

It compares to PSE12 1:1 smiley

Thank you so much.

Thank you. I have several of your tutorials. They are
so easy to follow.

Thank-You, Marisa, for the 'how to' tutorial.
Could you tell me please how to actually use one (change the words) that have already been created (e.g. in the text paths shared by Rachel)?
Thanx for your assistance.
Blessed Be.

I think you should just be able to edit with the text tool like you would when trying to change any text.

No matter how many times I learn this I ALWAYS forget... thanks for putting it here, now I can finally reference it!

thanks, Marisa - i am going to have to see if there is something comparable in PSP for shapes that aren't just circles/ovals!

Ruby, I also use PSP (along with PS). You can use any preset shape to do text on a path. It doesn't have to be just circles and ovals. It's just a matter of your available presets, whether downloaded or self-created. If you want to do a squiggly line, you would use the pen tool for that. Rather than me trying to explain it, here's a good video on YouTube directly from Corel that easily explains how to do it. The first half of the video is about shapes. Around the 4-minute mark is when she explains the pen tool usage.

Ruby, PSP has various preset shapes and there are more you can download in the Creative Content (depending on the version you have).

And you can add text to those also. Check this article on adding text on a path in PSP.

i use PSP9 (i'm old school lol)

i do know of the preset shapes and use them from time to time, but it would be cool to have or create ones. i'll have to look at the tut Christina suggested and see if i can do the latter.

thx for the article, i will have a look!

Ruby, here is a tutorial from my site on how to create them yourself.
