Our Next Book, Read Rules Before Voting

So here's the deal everyone. I do not want to get stuck reading a disappointing book with just Dawn this time! I don't mind reading books I don't like, but I do mind when everyone who votes for it disappears! So, if you vote in this poll you are committing to reading and discussing that book. If a different book ends up being chosen, then you can choose to join or not. But if you vote, and your book wins, then you have to read it. I will find you...

I figure we need to have at least 5 people "signed up" to have a good time. So a book will have to have at least 5 people committed to it before we start.

Hopefully I've made a good selection and you can find something that isn't terrible to read!

I promise to abide by the rules and read my choice if it is picked. If not, you can have your pick of one of my children as punishment. That punishment may be more for you than me though. smiley

I wont vote because I´m still reading wicked - but, if The Great Gatsby or The Murder of Roger Ackroyd win, I´ll try to follow up.

I had to disappear because of sudden school obligations, but I have it under control now. I'll mostly be checking the forums when I first get up in the mornings.

Hopefully I have not scared everyone away with my mean threats.

I agree Marisa - it was a shame not to get more viewpoints on the book. Oh well ...

You've thrown me a curve ball with the choices this time and I had to ponder. I have never read Gatsby and feel I should, so I ended up voting with my head because my heart was with North and South which is a fabulous book set in the north of England (not to be confused with the equally fabulous civil war tale North and South by John Jakes). However, I have read North and South more than once and I have seen the wonderful BBC adaptation with the very dishy Richard Armitage as lead role. Either would please me but I will try and join in whatever the vote is.

aw! Your threat did make me giggle, Marisa, though I'm sorry to hear you didn't have many readers on Wicked! I sat that one out because of how I'd felt about it the first time I read it. I didn't want to be a killjoy for all the people who were so excited to read it. If I'd known you had so few readers, I might have jumped in to stir the pot a little. LOL

That said, I just finished Eleanor & Park because I just couldn't wait any longer. smiley It's so...enchanting! Hope others want to talk about it.

awwww, I can´t see how the voting is going because I havent voted - I´m a curious kitty, it´s cruel :p

So hopefully it will be The Great Gatsby, I always wanted to read it smiley

So far there are not many voters for any of the books - is everyone busy in October?

I was so excited about the book club originally, but missed out on the first one as I was away for 6 weeks. I will read which ever book wins.

Well, if everyone who voted for Gatsby wants to give it a go, if you add me in to the count that makes 5. I think 5 people should make for decent discussion. And we'll have to make it look really fun so more people join us next time.

How long of a time frame would you like to read the book? A longer time is harder for me because I read quickly and then forget what I've read. But I can post check in threads throughout so that at least I can leave some thoughts so by the end I can remember what I was thinking.

Well, then I voted on the Gatsby, to show a "count me as one for it" :p

I´ll look for the book and check it to see the size, etc, before answering about reading schedule...

Hey, I want to read Gatsby in English but since I am not a native speaker, it'll take me some time. I think three weeks should be fine for me smiley

Gatsby suits me too - I read quickly but I have another book club plus my own list to get through so 1 a month is fine by me. I expect it will actually take 7-10 days unless it is super and I get really engrossed.
