Getting started with blogging

Hello lovelies,

I generally enjoy posting things on Instagram, but sometimes recently I've felt a bit restricted by the caption space. I feel like this is maybe a sign that I should have a go at blogging, so that I could ramble on all I want, LOL! Many years ago I created a blog on Blogger, but I didn't really like it. It felt really cumbersome, and I didn't have any burning passions I wanted to write about back in the day anyway. So I did a bit of looking around online, I really like the look of Wordpress sites, but I'm a little confused and thought I'd ask your opinions.

I understand there is a difference between wordpress.com and .org. One would allow me to create a site for free now, but with some limits. My main question is, will I regret going with the free option later? Is it likely to be difficult to migrate to the other if I wanted to? Would it be better to buy a domain and go with .org rather than rely on the (payable) plugins and stuff on .com later?

I'd love to hear what you like, whether wordpress or something else.

I love wordpress. You can pretty much do anything you want with it - it's super versatile.

If you don't want to go all in straight away, just get a free one and try it out. You can still do a fair bit with the free version and I believe it's pretty easy to migrate your free blog to your own domain when you want to.

That said, domains are cheap, hosting is cheap and wordpress does a lot of stuff for you once you have it set up.

I have mine privately hosted and it pretty much updates itself whenever it needs to. Occasionally I'll have to go into my hosting control panel for things like PHP and security certificates, but it is so easy to work with.

Thanks for your advice Trish, I tried making a Wordpress site. It's...surprisingly accessible! I got a domain for the princely sum of £1.06 for the year smiley and got a small amount of hosting free through my student email, sorted!

I used blogger years ago. Now I use Wix, but am not really happy with it so I am working on a new blog with Wordpress smiley.
