Green Acres or City Life?

what ???? 40 minutes...so you need a car to get to the bus stop smiley

Yeah. smiley And if you get selected for Jury duty they send you two bus tokens. smiley You better have a car or be Forest Gump! smiley

My family lives on a cattle farm in Amish country. We are 25 minutes or about 19 miles from town. I am a country girl all the way. Now that I have discovered Amazon Prime Pantry, I only go to the store for clothes and frozen/refrigerated goods, or if there is a really really good sale. I do go to the farm supply store quite a bit for animal vaccinations, feed, fencing, etc. We are nature lovers all the way!!!

Definitely Green Acres as I grew up on Green Acres Herb Farm. I now live in a century old house the is 10 minutes from the family farm and 45 minutes from every where else. I do my shopping every other week, so that is not bad. We enjoy the quiet.

@Astrid: Sounds like an adventurous life you have had! smiley

@Suzy: That's crazy... about your Jury duty "bus tokens". I've been called for jury duty 3 times alone in the past 5 years. Same for hubby.

@Marti: what a fabulous life it sounds like. I'm still getting acustomed to shopping online... I'm too picky. LoL So still learning to make sure I know exactly what I am ordering. smiley

@ Priscillia: How funny!!! smiley is that your farm house in your picture?

Nope. This is the house we live in now. It is a 1907 Arts and Crafts that is under constant renovation. We picked it up for a song as it had been used and abused for many years, but the bones were still good and was well worth the time to restore. I post on the Historic District if you are interested.

@Priscillia: It is beautiful! We bought an oldie to reno (but it's only a mid-century) smiley I am not familiar with Historic District (as a website?) I am familiar with various Historic Districts though... like when we go to Savannah & Charleston, and the likes... where they are doing their best to keep those homes in a better condition close to the original build. smiley Love visiting places like that!

The Historic District is a site for people who live in and or love old houses. While most of the people live in older homes than yours, you may still find it useful. They have lots of forums on different topics and is full of people happy to share their experience and advice on renovation projects. They have recently added a gallery feature to store your renovation pictures.

I forgot to come back in here and tell you... I think I found it... the .org site? Thanks for sharing! very cool and a lot of info there. smiley

Hi, good question. I was born and raised in a big city ... but as I got older I required more peace and quiet. I live in the suburbs for a while now and prefer it over the hustle and bustle of a big city. For me ... the older I get the more quiet I want...Soon we're going to find a quiet beach and enjoy only the sounds of the waves...as long as there are birds and greenery (and an internet hookup) - I'll be a happy camper...ha

I much prefer living in a smaller community but not too small!! We live in a tourist town of about 130,000 now which has lots of outdoor activities available year round. It can get pretty busy in the summer though, so we are lucky enough to be able to escape to our cabin which is half an hour drive from the closest village, although there is a gas station and corner store about 15 minutes down the road. I grew up in a city of just under a million people, then after DH and I got married we moved to a smaller town of 250,000 which was great. All the amenities but not the larger city problems. When the kids were pretty small we moved to a village of about 300 just outside the same town. It was only a fifteen minute drive into town so we still had easy access to the pre-school, the Y for activities, etc. but lots of room to breathe!

I want the best of both! I love green fields, and open spaces, but we currently live in town, and I am really enjoying the convienence of being able to walk to a shop in less than 5mins! I do miss the green though, being able to open the door and take my little boy for a wander - nowhere special, just out in nature, and see grass, bugs, puddles, birds etc, instead of cars and roads and people!

I live in a small town of 350 people on top of a mountain with the closest store being 10 miles away... I love it! There is nothing prettier then seeing the changing seasons slow creep up to us, or getting my breath taken away daily as I wind down the mountain at how pretty it is. Our closest "city" is about 40,000 people but has a lot that other big cities lack.

But the best part to where I am is that i'm like 2 hours from everything. I live in Central PA and I can be in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, D.C. in about 2.5 hours or if you want to go a little further I can easily be in NYC in about a 5 hour drive. It gives us lots of options to do things people in other parts of the US can't easily do. There are so many options for history or arts or most other experiences with in a very fair distance.

Sounds like a great location, Christi.

I like both. I grew up in a small village where everyone literally knew everyone. I moved to a small town when I entered high school. I then moved to a capital city to go to university where I now live. The area I live in reminds me of my home town though.
