Olympic Fever

I have been enjoying some lazy days watching other people work as hard as they can! Anyone else watching the Olympics? And for our Brazilians, how are things going for you?

I'm not sure I've ever really watched American coverage of the Olympics, and while it's confusing to be watching it not quite live, I'm enjoying the commentary and all the different sports they cover. Looking forward to watching more.

Do you have a favorite sport to watch? I'm not sure if I do, I love all the variety, especially the weirder the sport.

YESSSS. I love watching sports. This Olympics has been super exciting with Michael Phelps' incredible record-breaking gold medal run. And the USA gymnastics team is amaaaazing. But my true olympic love is track & field ('athletics' as they call it?) I will be watching all the running I possibly can.

I'm not sure I like the running as much as I like the swimming? Although, I had a few tears last night for Wayde van Niekerk when he won the 400m. And of course watching Bolt is always a bit confusing, how is he so fast?!

I was really rooting for runner English Gardner -- because she has the best name, ever.

(and I made that pun 'rooting' completely unintentionally)

I like watching the women's gymnastics. There's a lot of drama concerning Simone. I don't know what the issue is, but there've been reports of cyber-bullying.
I have a question for those who are watching from other than the USA--do your news commentators keep a tally of how many medals your countries have won? I know it's not the most friendly and relaxed community of athletes, but this comparison seems very crass. I'm all for competition, but forget about how many medals each country won and cheer on the winners who have earned it, I say.

@Maude: Totally agree!

@Patacake: During the regular broadcasts there really isn't any mention of total medal count, they tend to focus on whatever sport they're covering at the time.
