Question About Subscription Upgrade PLEASE HELP!!

I can't find an answer to this specific question, and have posted in Community Support, but no one seems to have seen it yet, so I thought I'd ask here as well. A bit of background first:

I currently have a PU subscription (paid monthly). As I am becoming more and more obsessed with designing over scrapbooking, I have been thinking for quite a while about upgrading to a CU subscription. I do understand that I have to cancel my PU subscription before taking out a CU subscription, BUT...

Because I have to cancel my PU subscription before taking out a CU subscription - does this mean that the CU subscription will be seen as a new subscription, or as a continuation of the former, PU, subscription?

Basically, what I want to know is this:

With the recent changes to the Patron status in mind, will cancelling then re-subscribing affect my Patron status in any way? By this, I mean, will there be any limits as to what I can download, or to the quantity I can download? Or will I have to wait the six months before regaining full, unrestricted Patron status?

I just want to know what to expect!
