I think my best memories of when we used to create our own treat bags ..... we used to ut in gumdrops, jellybeans, kisses etc into each bag ... sitting there with my mother filling the bags and just chatting about our day. It was more fun than Halloween itself. And once I was married and we were in our first house we had this little black shaggy dog that loved to get up close to each of the kids and say hello to each of them in turn and I'm sure she knew who each of them were too !!
We don´t celebrate Halloween here Susan, but when Messy was just a 2 month old kitten we carved a pumpkin on Halloween just to put her into:
I don´t have too many halloween memories, but this day was fun!
Happy Halloween for those of you celebrating today!
There was an epic snowstorm one year on Halloween when I lived in Minnesota. I went out trick or treating with my dad and we barely made it back to the house so much snow had fallen! It's a snowstorm people still talk about, so I'm glad to have experienced that piece of history.
Lorien ...your kitten is too cute .....love the big blue eyes
My favorite Halloween was in 1977. All of us kids (14 in the direct neighborhood) dressed up as Star Wars characters. The neighbors kept answering the door with, "I'm seeing double and triple!" because there were so many of us dressed as the same characters. My other favorite Halloween was in 1999 when my then-8-year-old son "Forced" me to do Darth Maul facial make-up on him. To this day, I still don't know how that kid sat still for 2 1/2 hours.
I don't really have a favorite, just fond memories of how Halloween used to be. Back in the '70's the streets were filled with trick-or-treaters everywhere. We were pretty safe back then and I just remember how much fun it was to run the streets with friends and not have to worry about anything. Just about every house in the neighborhood participated and it was just so much fun! Things didn't wind down until late into the evening.
Then the dentist that poisoned his son ruined Halloween for quite some time for everyone not long after that. We actually lived in that town and it was devastating to find out a father would do that to his own child for insurance money.
Oh, and I think maybe the last Halloween before the dentist ruined it, I did receive my very first kiss. So, I guess there is a favorite memory!

Like Lisa Marie I too remember those wonderful nights when the streets belonged to us kids. I guess my favorite memory is the haunted houses while stationed in Germany. The parents would pick one building and all get together and make a haunted house in it's basement. They would work on it for weeks, and no kids were allowed in. We'd all speculate as to what we thought they were doing, and then the night came and we could see if we were right or not. That was the best.
The first time I carved a pumpkin myself - in 2005! Halloween not such a big thing here in the UK, but getting bigger!
I named the pumpkin Peter the Pumpkin, but I can't work out how to add a picture as the only option I get is to add from a url rather than my pc. Will share if I can!
Making our costumes. We had so much fun putting them together.
being able to stay up late and play with our friends.
