Aaahhhh, here in Australia, Halloween has only gained popularity in my area in the past few years. This year I don't think I'll be doing much other than handing out treats to locals that come to our door. My daughter (14) is going to a friends house so I'm sure they will have a blast (and NO sleep!).
We don´t have trick or treating here, but I´m going to a Renaissance Fair in a country city. The premise is: in halloween/samhain the door between the worlds is open so you can have fun and trade stuff between worlds. I´m going as a guest of a friend who will be the oracle of the fair and I´ll bring a little of my stuff to sell at her booth. Cool, isn´t it?
My 3-year-old is dressing up as "Batman Girl" (which is NOT BatGirl, lol, or so she tells me) and I'll probably take her down the block a bit for candy (that she probably won't eat, lol). But, she's an extrovert and VERY social, so she really enjoys seeing and interacting with all the people.
Mollie - your 3 yr old sounds similar to my 4 yr old. He is, coincidentally LOL, going as batman. Batman PJs with cape = $12 at Kmart. I'm going to miss these cheap "costumes". We'll do the same - down the block for interaction & candy (that I'll take to work).
If I had to stay up all night and drink beer .... wow, I couldn't do it lol but it does sound like fun. We had 29 little goblins ... that's all but they were so cute. The smallest was a little wee elephant, trunks and all ... soooo cute and when daddy turned around he had a black tail ... too funny

We're dressing up for my Pilates class, so that should be a fun time . Later we may go to party or stay home for the trick or treaters. To be decided.
We joined up with most of my siblings and their spouses and children. It was fun.
It has been a long time since I stayed awake overnight The fair wasn´t that profitable, but it was fun. And the beer was great!
