What is your "day job"?

Everyone on this site loves to work with digital products. I am just curious if that will transfer over into other things we might have in common. What is your "day job"?

I'm a school teacher and love to use digital elements in creating lesson plans and Power Points.

I'm a lawyer and making scrapbook layouts in the evening is my way of unwinding after a busy day at work

I am .... retired lol ... but work in mixed media and digital art so use it everyday

I mentioned that I use my digital elements for school things. I also scrapbook digitally for my cute family.

I´m a full time... crafter. I make hand craft stuff, vynil decor on my Silhouette Cameo and flairs to sell at geek meetings and such. I also take care of my cats, 10 cats that I´m helping to find an owner and I help to clean a cat shelter on my neighborhood once a week.

I am my 84-year-old Mum's carer.

I'm a SAHM so no day job for me. Only in the evenings I like to design new stuff for my store

A SAHM IS the day job! Give yourself credit! smiley

SAHM is a 24-hour job! And the best payment are giggles smiley

I am a SAHM, too, and that SO is my career (right now)! It's tough sometimes taking care of my munchkin and also taking care of the household. But my munchkin and the stress relief the housekeeping/cooking offers my hubby are worth it. (And, since we're temporarily living with my in-laws right now, I get to help ease their stress levels, too!)

Prior to my munchkin (about 3 years ago), I was a revenue auditor for a casino and a help desk rep before that. I am looking into going back to college, too. I tried my hand at programming once upon a time, but it was tedious and I got totally swindled by the college... so I am not really sure what I want to do... paralegal or admin assistant type jobs are VERY appealing to me right now... but then, I've considered virtually every job under the sun... lol. smiley

I read an article that calculated how much a SAHM is worth, if you were to hire out people for ALL the jobs a SAHM does, and it was CRAZY! I am really thankful that my hubby understands how much work it can be - he highly values my time and often tells me that since we're a team, I make the same per hour as he does. I love it. It helps on the rough days when my munchkin is pushing ALL my buttons and things just aren't working right!

I too was a SAHM .... I volunteered at the schools and was there almost everyday .... teaching arts and crafts, helping get ready for concerts, organizing hot dog days, helping in the computer room, setting up and printing a class newspaper, got to go on some really cool field trips where they gave me the difficult students because they knew they didn't scare me and I could handle them lol .... our eldest had big speech problems so was in therapy from 2 years old to grade 6 and all the things associated with a child that can't speak and my second and youngest had short memory learning problems, especially with math. Staying home with them worked though as the eldest with the speech issues is now working at a great job and is a great public speaker .... the youngest writes his own computer software programs and works on servers all day ... it is and was the hardest and most important job I will ever have done. The only downside of staying at home for me was my pension now .... if you don't put it away by working you can't get it later ... something for all you moms out there ... try and put even a little away each month ... it's surprising how it will build on itself in 30 years.

Mollie ... I went back to collage when I was 50 .... I had to update my math and sciences which took six months but who knew? ... I was good at it and had a blast.

I always loved being a SAHM - best "job" in the world! I'm now an office manager at the best job in the world (for me). Great boss, sneakers and jeans for the dress code, no stress, and I get time to create kit parts during the day.

@Lisa: Your awesome job remembered a job one of my business partners on my craft business had for almost two years (she was fire a couple of months ago, because the place has closed). Officially, she was a secretary. Pratically, she was paid just to stay in an office. Yes, stay. The company needed to have an office opened, due to beaurocratic reasons. So she needed to stay there to pick the mail when the post office went to deliver that, answer a phone that almost never rang, and keep her boss updated. He only went there to pay her and once in a while to pick something on the archives. It was very close to her house and she could do all her crafts while she was there, since she had nothing else to do.

@Lorien - wow, what a job for her! When I first got hired, my boss told me to bring something to do as there just wasn't a whole lot for me to do, even though we do a huge business for well known refineries. We weren't on the internet then, so I brought books, puzzles, cross stitch kits to work on, etc. Then we got on the net, my boss wanted me to create a website for us, which led to creating graphics, which led to creating websets, which led me to here! lol All over the course of 16 years!

First let me say that I am so glad to see so many SAHM's here...in this day and age it is so hard to do!

As for me I am now retired. Prior to retirement I was a Budget/Financial Analyst for the federal government. I loved the numbers but hated the supervision side of it. Hubby and I decided before marriage that we would not have kids....part of the reason was that I wanted my career and I believed, at that time (it is so hard now), that it was important to be at home with your children until, at least, when they get into school. Loved my job and would have stayed a couple years longer but I didn't care for my bosses managerial ways. Best decision I made was to retire earlier than I had planned.....seem to have more disposable income now then when I was working...it is crazy!

Before I became disabled I worked in Television Advertising. I used my skills for CGs on commercials and the creative side of me helped with shooting the commercials. My job title was Senior Account Executive and I sold air time for the spots to run on. Sometimes I miss it... but not the corporate world!

my 'day' job is wife of 48yrs...mother... grandmother (14) & great-grandmother to 4 w/3 new one within the next 4mo.. the 'job' is trying to keep the new names straight let alone all those birthdays....lol

Another sahm here, though more frequently than not I refer to myself as a domestic engineer... LOL I miss the corporate world at times (interaction with adults, the paycheck), but at other times not (so don't miss the drama & office politics).

Lorien, that sounds lovely! I used to work at a bookstore that wasn't very busy. I was allowed to sit and read all the books when no one was in there. I loved it!

Lizanne, I've worked in the corporate world too. The drama was bad for me too. I'm glad to be out of that side of things. I'm a middle school teacher now, so there is still drama, but it's a whole different kind. I can handle this drama. I'm lucky because I only work two periods a day and get to be home with my kids the rest of the day.

@Echo: I have a lot of respect for middle school teachers - those kids are the hardest to teach (and it's the age when the kids are the meanest toward each other). Maybe that you only work with them for two periods a day is what makes you be able to handle it. smiley

I am a pharmacist/manager and scrapping is a way for me to unwind. Unless you talk to my husband who thinks I am just more stressed.

SAHM for me as well! I used to work with the mentally and physically disabled, and for a time was a substitute teacher. We were military, so we moved a lot, almost every 3 years for the past 20. Now we are officially retired and it sooo nice living in one place forever (I hope). My eldest two daughters are grown, one married and one in college, so now my hubby and I are stay at home moms and dads for my "second generation" boys (Ethan- 8yrs. and Joshua- 3yrs.). AND I love my job here at DigitalScrapbook.com!!!!

@Sheila, And your work is so cute! Thanks for all you do!

My day job is spent working in our business. Ok, maybe I should rephrase that. My day job is spent doing digi scrapping in our business. My husband and I are owners of a company that makes Fire Retardant Coatings to keep your homes safe. We enjoy educating people on the dangers of fires and what you can do to make your homes safer. I do use my digi scrapping to create labels for our business and graphics for them as well.

@Lori: It sounds a cool job!

@Sheila: I totally agree with Echo, I´m a fan of you and your designs!

Currently I work in a newspaper archive at my university's International Studies office and sell Jamberry Nails. My passion with Jamberry is to create custom manicures. However, I am working towards becoming a published poet and a university professor in literature.

Props to the SAHMs! I tried....couldn't do it! Love my kids but would go insane spending THAT much time with them! My "day job" is as a campus technology coordinator for a vocational college. Basically, if it requires a log in or plugs in, then I get to deal with it. smiley I am, however, a church volunteer, and with that, I am marketing, webmaster, IT director, praise leader, so yes, I get to use my digital skills there, too!

Agreed Tina. I work in outside sales for a food ingredient company. So I travel regularly. It's a lot for my husband and I to balance with the three little ones at home, but we make it work.

Scrapping is my creative outlet.

I think it would be very hard to travel with little ones in the house. I am a Human Resources Manager / Bookeeper / IT help desk. And this next year I hope to take the plunge into getting certified in Global HR Management.

Until 2 weeks ago I was a SAHM. Now I am a room attendant at a small motel. Just cleaning, but it's not mentally exhausting work and my boss is really easy-going so it's fun. And I love getting out of the house! smiley
