What movie do your kids watch over and over / what movies do you watch on repeat?

I'm sitting here up latter than I should be and my daughter is watching the live action Beauty and the Beast for about the 10000th time (and if it's not live action it's Disney cartoon version!).

So what movies are your families watching on repeat?

My sister used to rewatch movies when she was little and it drove me crazy. I remember she really loved the Little Rascals for some reason...

I don't rewatch much these days, I guess I feel like there's so much new stuff to watch, and I don't watch much while I'm doing other things, which I think is a prime time for a good rewatch.

My hubby likes to rewatch movies... cult classics, etc. I'm more the type... "I've already seen that!" even with shows, murder mysteries, etc. Hubby will start an episode of say Forensic Files and I'm like, "Seen it... the boyfriend did it" haha he gets so mad because he doesn't remember it and I'm like well keep watching it until you do about 10 minutes in... he's like "Oh yeah, I remember now." smiley I have about 15 movies in my to watch list and could add several more, so that's why I don't like rewatching. Although, if it's late and I'm working on something that requires my attention, I will leave oldie but goodies running in the background or like Andy Griffith or Gunsmoke or I love Lucy... just because it brings back good memories without my full attention being required. smiley

My little sister must have watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer about 200 times.... for my son, it was the Disney versions of Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. I don't rewatch a lot of movies, though I keep The Princess Bride, Benny & Joon, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Gamers, Boondock Saints, Hellboy, Iron Man, Daredevil, Shrek, Ratatouille, and an old TV-movie called The Night They Saved Christmas for those nights when the net is out or I'm in a mood for a rewatch.

There are movies that I enjoy and that I have watched a time or ten, like The Princess Bride, and there are movies that if I catch them on TV I'll watch them like Mean Girls. I've never been to watch something over and over and over.

I remember my Grandma use to find a movie she liked and that's all she'd watch. She'd pick up the VHS at the local rental store and then pay more in rental fees than what it would have cost her to buy it. And my little brother must have watched Davey Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier ever day for about 2 years.

Now my daughter does it, though I think it's more typical with toddlers to find something they like and stick with it. For the last year and a half if I've given her the choice to watch a movie the answer is Beauty and the Beast. Movie nights have gotten to be pretty predictable smiley

My sister used to watch movies on repeat when she was a teen. It drove me bonkers and I wasn't even in the room while she was doing it. So it figures that my boys would do the same thing.

Frozen used to be one of my favourite Disney movies. Used to be. Before I watched it 500 times a couple of winters ago because my then two year old was obsessed with it. Then my boys went through a Toy Story phase. Luckily there are 3 movies AND some shorts so it took slightly longer for me to be able to quote all of it (I can now, woo hoo).

At present, when we're not watching Ninjago (while playing with the Ninjago Lego because god forbid we play Lego without the TV on), we're watching The Lego Movie. What makes it more aggravating is that crazy catchy song. (Everything is NOT awesome, thank you very much.)

For my part, I could probably watch a few gorgeous period dramas on repeat (Pride & Prejudice, North & South, Persuasion, Our Mutual Friend and Emma are my favourites). Because they're so pretty and I love the music.

I love watching my favourite movies over and over. For me it is Beauty and the Beast with A Knight's Tale being a close second. My oldest son watched 101 Dalmations at least 101 times when he was about 2. He called it the Puppy Movie and we could have played it on an endless loop for about 8 months. My daughter loved the whole Land Before Time series and I had forgotten about it until she told me that one thing she and her fiance have in common is that they both love Land Before Time so that is what they watch when they want to have a movie night.

The movies I re-watch more than anything else would have to be the Harry Potter series; as for TV on DVD, My 87-year-old Mum and I have re-watched Heartbeat, Wild At Heart, A Touch Of Frost & The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (all UK); we've also watched Blue Heelers & Packed To The Rafters (OZ) a couple of times, too.

I used to watch A Knight's Tale all the time. Classic!

My cousin Sara use to watch 101 Dalmatians on repeat, to the extent that when getting a dog they had to get a Dalmatian because she would not accept that other dogs existed.

I haven't watched A Knight's Tale in a long time. That's a good movie, it use to be one of my favorites. But now that we mentioned it I did go through a Heath Ledger faze because 10 Things I Hate About You is one of my all time favorites. (Weird fact, my husbands name is Heath...hmmm).

I love to re-watch movies! I watch 'The Notebook' every time it's on TV (the rest of my family rolls their eyes). I've watched 'Legally Blonde', 'You've Got Mail', 'Sleepless in Seattle', 'Pretty Woman', 'Officer & a Gentleman', & 'Time to Kill' more times than I can count! Many others too but these are the older ones that come to mind most easily!

I love Legally Blonde - but no one else wants to watch lol so with only 1 tv in the house it has been several years since I watched it.

@ Karen... ALL of those (except A Time To Kill) I would rewatch several times too IF they came on. I'm a funny girl though about buying them to watch. Hubby will buy videos of favorite movies to watch just when he wants to. smiley

I also love A Walk To Remember. I can't remember the name off the top of my head... that I would watch again to. It's a foreign film (so subtitles) about a young lady who gets very early onset Alzheimer's (like at 30-35). I love love loved that movie. I find the title and be back in a few minutes. smiley

ETA: Ok so it's called "A Moment To Remember". It's Korean and she was 27 when it happens.

if i am going to rewatch movies (not much time for that these days) i'll watch True Lies and The Sound of Music. there are a lot more I'd like to rewatch but these are the movies that came to my mind at this time.

I guess we're re-watching less as there is so much choice with all the "video on demand" providers and TiVo and such ... When it was still make do with what's on life TV or spend extra money on renting out a VHS Cassette, we certainly re-watched a lot!!
I remember that my friends and I would make a big night out of every re-run of "Gone with the Wind" and "Casablanca", down to providing some matching food/drinks.

There are a number of series and films that make it to our screens again and again - Midsumer Murders (UK), anything Austen, Bronte or Hardy, my favourite movie of all times "Local Hero", "The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain", "Brideshead revisited" ...

@Stef- I always love a theme move night! A few years ago for my husbands grandmother's 80th birthday we had a surprise "Gone With the Wind" party for her. There were about 20(all of her "girls") of us who piled on blankets and pillows including grandma and watched the movie. But then we had an entire meal for about 100 people afterwards with all sorts of themed foods. It was a great time!

I even had a copy of that infamous cookbook dedicated to "Gone with the Wind" from the 30ies - I think it was lost when somebody moved out.

I will watch the first episode of Archer over and over, because I keep introducing the show to people.
Drop Dead Gorgeous so much so that I'll start affecting a Minnesota accent.

@Stef: I think you're totally right... with all of the things like Netflix, Hulu, etc. It's so easy to watch shows and movies I've never even heard of and enjoy them vs watching what was on at 3 in the morning when I had a bout of insomnia. smiley

@Amber: I loved Drop Dead Diva!!! Hated when it went off the air. smiley

There was a Dirty Dancing marathon on today. I may or may not have not turned the channel all day while doing my house work. I may have just found one of those movies that I am guilty of watching over and over (blushing in embarrassment)

@ Shawna & Amber: Drop Dead Diva was a a good show!

I watch movies that have multiple add-on's or series....(I am a james bond nut - have all the movies), Star Trek, Independence day, The Mummy series, Jurassic Park series, Indiana Jones series and Harry Potter - etc...things like that....and Love Actually is one of my fav's. I can watch all of those over and over again...always sees something new each time.

Plus GAME OF THRONES and Madame Secretary.....

I love the old Godzilla movies with the voice overs.

I don't tend to re-watch movies that I've loved and purchased DVD movies of, but I will watch them over and over when they come on TV again. One of my all-time favorite re-watches is The Sound of Music with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. I can't wait for the moment when the Captain breaks it off with the Baroness Schraeder and goes down to the the garden gazebo to tell Maria that he's in love with her.

@Benita: Hahaha

@Debra: We watched this on our first date... me and the hubs almost 20 years ago now... whew!

Mine has been watching Boss Baby way too often :p

I can't count how many times I've watched these particular movies (and yes, my husband loves to watch these with me too):

- Age of Adaline
- Miss Potter
- Memoirs of a Geisha
- Out of Africa
- Mary Poppins (okay hubby's not much of a fan of this one)
- Braveheart
- Shawshank Redemption
- Forrest Gump
- Avatar
- Gandhi
- Schindler's List
- Up
- Wall-E

And our annual family tradition at Christmas time (14+ years like clockwork so far):

- A Christmas Story

And our daughter (who's now 26 years old) has probably watched all the Harry Potter movies at least a couple dozen times.

As you can see.... we're a movie loving family.

smiley

I can watch Hitchcock's Rear Window and North by Northwest endlessly!

Anything Hitchcock really...

none really. kids loved Cars & Milo & Otis when they were little.

well my kids are all grown up now, but they loved "land before time" movies, my youngest watched it so many time he would recite the whole movie while it was playing.

I don't have any children, but my niece loves youtube lol. She watches those videos of people playing video games and loves the commentary. She thinks they are famous because they are on youtube lol.

Now for me....I'm an adrenaline junkie when it comes to movies lol. I've probably watched every movie I've ever seen many times over....and generally they are mystery, horror, or scifi.

I like some comedies, but they usually have to really draw me in. They have a category of comedy horror....and those ones are hilarious lol.

Oh....and yup....I don't mind watching tv shows over and over. But I just stick to crime documentaries and like those paranormal shows lol.

When my kids were small it was Land Before Time and Winnie the Pooh. Now they're teens, so it varies. DS tends to run towards cheesy, campy comedies or action movies. DD tends to go for tween love and coming of age stories including Cinderella styled live action which are rewatched frequently, however she tends to watch more YouTube videos than anything. As a family we tend to watch and rewatch Marvel movies or TV shows like Big Bang.
