Where do you like to swim?

It's heating up where I am and it made we wonder what types of water people prefer to swim in....

Pool

I was raised in Minnesota and I still prefer to swim in a lake!

Marisa, I basically stick with the pool. However, we go boating often in the river. I have struggled to find scrapbooking kits, word art, etc. that work for boating on a river. It's basically all about the ocean/sea or lakes.

I'm a fish, I'll swim in anything! smiley

after studying aquatic ecology in college ... i'm a little too familiar with, and often creeped-out by, the critters that live in non-pool water smiley

I prefer to swim in a pool. I will swim in the lake when we go boating, but I'm not a fan of getting my arms and legs bruised up while trying to climb out on a dock or back into the boat.

Now that the boys are getting a bit older we hit up the lakes more and more. The sparkle heart doesn't have a a lot of fear, but still doesn't like the cold water...she does eventually acclimate smiley

I prefer clear water, where I can see the bottom of the body of water. I'm not good in water, so I like to see where the bottom is in relation to the surface, and then I know how far it is until I "drown". LOL Yep, I'm a chicken.

Water is water to me--I've gotten to swim rarely enough in the last several years that anywhere is good. I grew up swimming in lakes and rivers, and fell in love with waterparks, too. As an adult, a friend taught me to body-surf and we'd run up to the local wave pool after work for an hour-long bodysurfing workout--great memories with that! Getting sick with lupus and having UV exposure trigger flareups was really limiting. That said, the pool at this apartment complex is getting the most use right now, since I've finally purchased a dive skin that covers from neck to wrists and ankles, and that pool's basically a block away! I'm hoping to join a semi-local chapter of Disabled Sports USA for their summer "water day" on the river in July--last year they had swimming, adaptive waterskiing, tubing behind a speedboat, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, and pontoon boating available (including the equipment for amputees and paraplegics to participate in each!).

I'm a fish and love swimming in any water, although I once was totally freaked out whilst snorkelling by some scuttling little fish in the mud at a former naval "torpedo run" salt water lake. I have fond memories of swimming in ice cold Swedish lakes, the crystal clear warm Aegean Sea and with dolphins in Florida! Unfortunately I can't swim now due to repeated perforated ear drums and ear infections last year smiley

I'm in Minnesota and prefer the lake also. We have enough of them lol.

Lake, lake, lake!
I was a competitive swimmer in my youth, and then a (voluntary) life guard on the river Rhine and the North Sea coast, and swimming instructor for a while. So let's say I've seen enough swimming pools to last me a lifetime - several of them, actually. And I learned that rivers deep enough to really swim in "properly" are often quite dangerous. Lakes, on the other hand, mostly have something so serene.
I understand when people aren't too keen on critters and algea, but along with the pools I also definitely had more than the recommended life time dose of chlorine, lol!
A couple of weeks ago, the ban on swimming in the lake near our house (Lake Baldeney) was lifted for a certain area. A ban that was in place for several decades! But as soon as there's rain, there's a temporary ban for two to three days because of what the water washes down from the farms above the lake - fertilizer (both natural and chemical) and other stuff raising the bacteria level. And you can't just jump in, you have to pay an admission fee to that cleared area first ... Well, that's Germany.

I'll swim anywhere...but the pool feels the cleanest and safest...

Me too!

I prefer Ocean

We are close to ocean (the North Sea), lakes and a swimming pool, but I prefer the ocean. A wave thing I guess... The lakes around here all have swamp-like mud bottoms and I really dislike how your feet get stuck in there (makes me cringe just thinking about it, lol!). Swimming pools never really did it for me, although I have warmed up to them now that we have little kids: It is a lot easier to keep an eye on them. Still don't like the chlorine though.

We have friends who live in Minnesota and I know they drill holes in the ice in winter to go fishing. Wouldn't the water still be cold even in summer?

Living in Queensland we have the most beautiful beaches however up north during summer there is the risk of stingers so it's not safe to swim in the ocean and then right up north there are saltwater crocodiles so we would never consider swimming in the ocean there even in winter. In South East Queensland though we are spoilt for choices with the Sunshine and Gold Coast beaches. I still prefer to swim in pools though as with our sun being so hot I don't like smothering myself with sunscreen and then having sand stick to me smiley Our pool was salt water as I too don't like chlorinated ones.

We had a swimming pool at home for over 15 years however after our son left home and nieces and nephews grew up we found it wasn't being used to ended up having a timber cover designed which was bolted into the cement sides, placed a bilge pump in the bottom to keep water out of the hole and used it as a timber deck which extended our pergola area.

I prefer pool swimming; it's what I know best and there is no worry of currents, etc. That said, my favorite place is the beach. I love walking the shoreline and body surfing close to shore.

I love the beach and the sunsets and surf... always have growing up in a coastal town, but as I age I tend to not like the sand everywhere and I like the clean view of knowing whats in a swimming pool. smiley smiley smiley
I do like the saltwater pools the best but there aren't many of them freely available.
AND I totally loving walking around lakes and picnics at the lake, but I agree wholeheartedly with MELO about the gooey feel of lake mud between your toes. smiley

The swimming pool in my back yard is my favorite place to swim. I love to be alone out there floating and observing nature - birds, squirrels, dragonflies, butterflies, etc. I also love going to the beach. Hubby and I love to walk the beach in the late evening when the sun is going down. We used to enjoy being at the beach during the day, but can't sit out there and bake all day like we used to. We are in the deep south of the U.S. and it is really cooking down here in the summer. Hubby likes all water. He grew up in Michigan where they ice skated on frozen lakes in the winter, and swam and fished in the lakes in the summer.

Love the beach, love diving, really all sorts of water sports, but the pool's the place without preditors... . So the pool really. Love to float ....

Pool here. I grew up swimming every summer and used to teach lessons as a kid/teen. Since I'm a city girl, pool has always been more convenient. I'm not opposed to lakes or ocean if we are around them, but the opportunities just don't present themselves for non-pool swimming. Of course, ever since I got contacts, my swimming has decreased. =/

I love to swim at the beach, but only if the water is crystal clear. I hate seaweed!! I'm not worried about any creatures that live in the water, but the thought of seaweed touching my legs freaks me out!!

I live on top of a mountain and have a nearly 10 mile winding drive up it from what I call civilization and home (I live in a town of 350 with the closest store being 10 miles away). On that drive, the road winds around a reservoir. It always looks so refreshing. If I could go swimming there it would be amazing, but I'm pretty sure that would get me in a lot of trouble! With that being said I use to love splashing in the river as a kid and still like to put my feet in. However it's been a while since I've had the opportunity to do something like and I'm not a big fan of pools

We have a lake house so lake is my favorite! You can't beat a sandy beach and clear water.

I love to swim, but I only like to swim freely in a pool.
