Beth, Gympie is a country town (officially a city). Historically, Gympie is known as "the town that saved Queensland" - during the gold rush days, the state of Queensland was verging on bankruptcy when James Nash discovered gold here. We are situated in the Mary Valley (Mary River), which has good farming land (dairy cattle, crops like beans and pineapples)

This is a layout I did a while ago:

The Mary River actually runs through the middle of Gympie, and when it floods, they have to evacuate the low-lying shops in the main street (Mary Street). Over the last few years, the number of empty shops in the main street has increased, which is a shame. Apparently, the rents are quite high, which seems to be a big part of the problem. I like Gympie - I lived in Bundaberg for a while (2 hours north), and there is a real contrast between the two. Bundaberg is much bigger, flatter and the streets in the city centre are laid out in a grid, whereas Gympie is smaller, hillier, and the streets have no regularity to them (as the saying goes "as crooked as a dog's hind leg") because the original tracks followed the gold diggings!

Part of our house was an original miner's cottage, which was added on to over the years - it's now a two-bedroom weatherboard house. We are situated on a hill, overlooking the main highway which runs parallel to the river. When it floods, it cuts our two access bridges, effectively stranding us on an island! That's when we enjoy a bit of respite from all the traffic noise from the highway smiley

The closest I'm comfortable saying is Pennsylvania, USA smiley I like the idea of this thread though smiley

I'm in sunny (very sunny lol) Phoenix, Arizona!

Northern Ireland - Europe!

And another one calling in from Germany - I live in Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, which is in the West, not too far from the Dutch border.
