Other formats for templates besides .psd?

I'm having problems with templates. I love templates. I collect a bunch of them but the ones from here mostly only seem to be able to be used with PS. I don't use Photo Shop. I've asked at other 'stores' and such and most are saying 'no problem you can use ours'. Why can't DigitalScrapbook.com do that too? I've been taught how to 'put a template together' using .png files but when I get excited about templates on this site and 'forget', or am hopeful, and download them they can't be used on anything except Photo Shop. Is there any way to get them in another format?

Which program do you use? Even with GIMP and PSP I can generally use the template files (although I only use photoshop now, there was a time when I did not). I do not really know how some of the specialty scrapbooking software works, but depending on what it is, if the designers do not own the program or know anything about it, it could be a little impossible. I don't know if it being converted from a PSD to a TIFF would help you, but you may ask about that for whichever templates you cannot use. '

Sorry I couldn't help more, it is hard to give a good answer without knowing which program you use. smiley

Sorry I use Panstoria's Artisan 4 . I have found I can use .png files. Someone else asked me about .tiff files but I'm not sure How I would find that out. If the program can use them I mean. (How would then be the next question)

I did a Google search and it appears that .TIF files will work with that program. You could convert them yourself by downloading a free program such as GIMP and opening these files, and then re-saving them as a TIF. I know that Paint.NET requires a plugin to open PSD files, so maybe just downloading GIMP and then converting them yourself would work. It really would not require much use of the program, just open and then save as. It is really hard to create files to work for EVERYONE and their individual graphic needs, so I just have found ways to work around it.I only had PSP for the longest time, so there was not much I could do, lol.

I don't use photo shop so I have found that I cant use templates either, everything else is fine as I just open them as pictures.

I use Docrafts Digital Designer and recently got Serif Craft Artist 2 which I hope will give me some more options.

Thanks Nicole for the tips, I might try out some of those smiley.

You could always contact the designer and put in a request - if there are enough people who would like to have other formats, I'm sure the designers are willing to make them. Ask nice though smiley

PS: I am changing the title of your post to reflect what you wanted to say - it now sounds a bit like you want to know what programs other people are using... Maybe there will be more votes for other formats for templtes if people read the new title.

I make all my templates available in layered TIFF, as that's the format I keep templates in for my own files because it uses less hard drive space. It's also handy that more programs support layered TIFF than PSD, as it means my templates are usable by more people. I still haven't sorted out exporting PNG layers at 300dpi, though.

Recently I started to make my layered files (templates too) as tiff which most of softwares are able to open. Currently I cannot promise to change my old files since it means a lot of work, but definitely I can promise for saving layered files as tiff. Hope that helps a little! smiley
