Converting Eps to Psd with layers?

Does anyone know how to convert EPS file to PSD and keep each layer? I export it as psd but it merges a lot of my layers together so hoping someone knows how to do it.

Thanks,
Sue

This is something I've been trying to find a good way to do for a while. Part of the issue is that I use Illustrator CC and I feel like they're always changing things! So I don't have a go to method currently. On easy way is to just copy each layer one a a time and paste into Photoshop. I think I one time got Illustrator to export all my layers as separate files, but I haven't been able to repeat it since smiley

Yeah same for me. What I been doing is coping each layer and adding new layer and pasting into place until all layers are on there own layers not grouped and then I export as psd. I have tried un-grouping and a few other things I found to try on YouTube but nothing worked, so this is what I do. Just really wanted an easier way as this is so time consuming. Thanks for reply. smiley

The way Illustrator saves layers is that all paths in a given layer will be saved as one flat layer. That's great if you're making a layered pattern paper and want to save all the red paths on one layer and all the white ones on another...but if you put all the paths for an element template into one layer, it's going to export as a single layer rather than having several recolorable paths.

The easiest way is when you're creating the EPS file itself, make it a habit to put each path on a separate layer...then when you're ready, you can simply export it and the layers will be intact.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'm not making the EPS file so not able to do that, but thanks anyways.

Yep, you'll have to create layers in the file and move the paths onto their own layers yourself in that case. It's an annoying job, but at least you only have to do it once per file!
