Help for a newbie for using PSD files

I'm new here. I make cards (and don't do digital scrapbooking "yet") and want to use the digital paper designs in card making. I recently purchased a bundle and found many of the files are only in PSD format. I understand these are usable with photoshop...but I don't own photoshop. My questions...is there a way to convert PSD files to say a PNG file or a format I can use? Is there a free download somewhere that will help me convert or use PSD files without having photoshop? Are the PSD files totally unusable for me? I'm using a Dell computer with Windows 8 and Microsoft software. I typically copy and paste the PNG files onto a Word document to print paper for use on cards. Until this week I'd never heard of a PSD file. Obviously I'm not very technically literate. Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks.

I know Gimp is free and can open PSD's...

Arlene ... here's an easier way of converting your psd to png .... convert files site
The site was listed here a few weeks ago ... simply use the 'choose a local file' browser and find your psd then choose the png option in the output format on the right side and click convert .. it will download your file, convert it and give you a link to the png file ..

@Susan: Thanks for that link. I was looking over it, hoping it would do a convert of .tiff to .psd but it doesn't.... Do you happen to know of any places that will do that type of conversion? I only ask because someone in digiscrapland has decided to no longer offer templates in .psd format & will only be offering them in .tiff format. While that works for Photoshop users, it doesn't for PSP users like me (PSP can't open that type of file). And when I asked her about it she suggested I give up PSP & switch to Photoshop.... *sigh*

Liz, that sounds a bit rude smiley I tend to try to make as many things usable for those who want to use my stuff.

Lizanne ... I googled psd to tiff ... this looks like a simple site to use ... I tried one and it took several seconds to convert and that's it

thanks so much Susan and Rachel!! I'll try to check your suggestions out. Glad to hear there is hope.... Arlene <><

@Rachel: She & I did have some talks & cleared the air (about the PSP vs. Photoshop comment), but she is still only offering them in .tiff format & that's her right. She is the creator after all, so it's her perogative.

@Susan: Thanks, but unfortunately that site converts .psd files TO .tiff files. I'm looking to do the opposite - convert .tiff files TO .psd files.

I did try looking into this on my own a couple months back, as I really like this person's templates, but the only one I found that converted .tiff files to .psd ones merged everything into one image/layer. With all the layers gone, the template was not usable.

Lizanne .. it also converts to tiff ... I know because I tried it before posting .... you have to add a psd file to convert it to tiff .. try it ... NEVERMIND ... I just reread your post lol ... I'll go looking to see if I can find one for you
